I think the R8 V10 just looks and sounds much more special than a 992 GT3.

GT3 everyday of the week for me. It’s just soooooooooo much fun to drive. Where you live unfortunately sucks for any fun car by the sounds of it. So that doesn’t matter. If I ever would sell my 458, GT3 would replace it. I’m lucky to have access to a 2018 GT3 when I want, so no reason to get one at this point. Only reason to pick the Audi is, your sending it to Underground racing for a bad ass turbo kit. Other than that , Meh:burnrubbe

I looked for gated v10 r8s for about 4 years and gave up trying to find a nice low km example, now an example like that will cost about the same as mine (if not more) for a car that is out of warranty and will still feel older and less tight than a newer car and while generally reliable carries the risk of expensive repairs coming out of left field

it just doesnt add up for me

I like the crisp tight feel of a newer car and the certainty that comes with original manufacturer warrantied cars

GT3 as the only vehicle sounds like you're sending full YOLO - which I can appreciate, but I don't understand. With the application being an only vehicle in an urban environment, a track toy that you can put number plates on seems to be as far off as possible.

What's the core reason for wanting something like this? Seems like you're chasing a box to check to have it on your resume of vehicles (which is fine!) Not every vehicle has to be ran 10/10ths; that's a lot of bread to spend to get minimal experience delta when being ran at 2/10ths though...

GTS does sound like a great option.

I spent a week in Toronto here recently. I certainly wouldn't consider it to be a car enthusiast hotspot

Depends on what you call "tech intrusion". Some new(er) tech is absolutely fantastic – backup cameras, for instance. Some is worse – auto start/stop, for instance. But you can't throw out the baby with the bathwater, in my opinion.

And the two don't jive for you. I don't think liking tech in a car makes you any less of a "car guy". Last time I noticed, there weren't any membership requirements.

Car tech in the late 2000s was the correct amount. Tech then was optional, and not totally integrated into the vehicle. Radios that you could replace and upgrade. Buttons for things you needed to control. You had driver aids, but they were aids, not intrusive.

There's "car guys" and then CAR GUYS. I have friends that are both. It's a little hard to deal with the "car guys" because they aren't REALLY into cars, they just like nicer cars. On the other hand, I have a buddy who is like "We can swap a manual transmission into that in the garage" and "that would be better with turbos" to everything. The real irony is he daily droves an incredibly bland Toyota Camry. But he has like 3 other interesting cars, but he fails the most boring car around lol.

Toronto has a ton of car guys, great car culture for many brands but appalling roads.

The newer tech is absolutely shite, so intrusive, "car guys" are meant to be enthusiasts for the ownership experience and new tech won't even let you select your own air temperature.

yeah hence my hesitation with the GT3, it seems to me that such an emotional engine with a manual is not to be had anywhere other than in the GT3 (in modern cars) and thats what draws me to it, but I wonder if I will be able to really enjoy it in my confines

I was thinking about a move to the GTS 991.1 when I had my GTS 4.0 and test drove one, beautiful car, but tbh the 3.8 didnt do it for me, the 4.0 in my GTS brought more fizz, never mind the 4.0 in a GT3

I know you'll bristle but honestly man you could do worse than a Mach1. NA, V8, relatively comfortable, will still hold value, stick, new car, looks the goods, grip for days etc. I know the interior is a bit meh but who fucking cares.

Maybe it's me (Im)maturing, but I just don't get the fixation on the fastest car ever anymore when you can't even use it to nearly that extent. It's the same with the obsession about ring times and all that - this coming from a guy with a "race car".

In a V8 manual mustang or Camaro you can find a quiet side street and rip a little burnout and have a blast and nobody will know or care. Get one with as short of gears and possible and have a blast every time you drive it. You're not gonna have dudes wanting to slob you, but you'll have more fun.

No, no you can't. You can set the cabin temp not the air temp, these are totally different things. Buzzing around yesterday in wife's 2019 and I set the temp to LOW but because the cabin was already colder than whatever the hell LOW was, it pumped warm air, i wanted cooler air similar to cracking the window without the massive noise at 130kmh.

I'll gate keep car guys when they start choosing one car over another because it's easier to play spotify or stream netflix, fucking spare me. I see more new cars are coming with a sensor that watches your face/head the whole time and beeps at you when it thinks you're not paying attention. That's not intrusive at all.

I think the speed thing is twofold: 1) on the rare occasions when you really can use it, it's fun with a capital F, and 2) it's one of those "but you could" things. Which doesn't make sense, but neither do lots of things we think and do.

But I agree with the sentiment – most people would probably be happier with their actual everyday driving experience in a still-quick-enough car that has more emphasis on comfort than pure 0-60 speed. That being said, about the first thing I look at is how much horsepower a car has. Doctor, heal thyself!

WTF are you actually talking about? When I reduce the temperature in my car the air gets colder. I'm not sure what else you'd expect out of an air conditioner. If I set it to "Auto," then it adjusts the temperature to maintain that temperature in the cabin. But if it's not on Auto, I have complete control of it. Have you actually used one of these systems? Maybe you should take a gander at the car's manual or something.

You actually know anyone who calls themself a "car guy" who seriously chooses their cars based on streaming anything? Really? I'll be honest: it seems like you're setting up a strawman just so you can knock it down. I've never, ever, run into anyone even approaching a "car guy" who's ever said anything remotely resembling this. And I doubt anyone else has, either.

The sensors you're ranting about only come into play only if you have any sort of self-driving/driving-assistance turned on. And it's a pretty good idea – people should be watching the road, regardless of what the car is supposed to be doing for them. And if you don't care for these sensors, I've got an easy fix for you: don't use the systems they're associated with. Seriously. My car doesn't give a shit where my eyes are looking unless I'm using one of the driving assistance features. Which I almost never do. So yeah, I'd agree that the feature that you never have to use unless you choose to is somewhat intrusive, but for very good reasons. So what?
