Definitely looks like environmental damage. Not surprised they refused to cover that.

Its only been hand washed. So I am surprised they wont cover it. Some chemical coming from the turn signal assembly.
After talking to 2 other dealers, I understand historically BMW does not cover their work. They prefer to let the dealer take the hit.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING, STRUCTURE, STRUCTURE: BODY: TAILGATE
Contact between the taillamps and the tailgate/side panel(s) can occur. This can cause paint abrasion, and over time corrosion can form on the body of the vehicle/tailgate. Note: This can occur on either one or both sides of the vehicle.
