Does anyone know how to get messages to show in the CarPlay app? I’m usually good with technology but I can’t figure out. I have a 2019 x5, I thought it was just a BMW safety feature but today I was driving with my girlfriend and her messages popped up on WhatsApp on her CarPlay her car is a 2025 x6, I don’t think that should make any difference

I don't think it is possible to show the actual message, but it is possible to show a notification that you have received a message, and who it is from.

You can enable this on your iphone, through settings (notifications).

You can then ask SIRI (or click and hold the phone button on the steering wheel) to "read messages". You can also reply to messages this way.

But who knows, Tahoe has introduced a few new features, such as widgets, which may allow you to see messages one day..

I don’t see the notification at all. I’m sure I turned on every possible notification. I can’t think of anything I might have missed

on your phone, Settings -> Notifications -> WhatsApp, then select "Allow Notifications", "Banners", and "Show in Carplay"

I have those options selected. Idk it’s weird. That’s why I gave up and assumed that BMW blocked it as a safety feature until I saw it in my girls BMW

Not sure which one you need for carplay, so just click all of them to see if that works..

Yeah I’ll try that. I wasn’t thinking it would affect it because Siri still reads out my messages in the AirPods. Now I’m thinking about it I’m comparing visual to audio. I appreciate it I’ll definitely try it

Do you have a message icon in your CarPlay? Because I don’t thought that was kinda weird.

If you go to Settings -> Carplay, then select your car, you can then select your Apps and Widgets that you want in Carplay... One of those is Messages...

No it’s not in there and I think that might be the real issue. I had an Acura MDX and it worked perfectly fine. I have this BMW for a couple years now and the CarPlay never worked. I just assume it was a BMW thing

Nah, carplay is really just screen mirroring from your phone, so chances are it is probably your phone that has the issue...

You can try to reset the connection completely. ie. remove and forget the connection on both the car and phone (carplay and bluetooth), and then try to reconnect everything.

What version of IOS are you running..? Maybe try to upgrade to Tahoe if you haven't already..

If you really wanted to make sure it wasn't the car, you could try connecting you missus' phone to your car to see if it work.

I have iOS 26.2 yeah I just hit the forget device on the phone. I’ll try to add it again in the morning when I’m inside the car. Now that I know it’s possible I’ll do more research on it

I figured it out bro. I had the messages and WhatsApp app locked. I had to disable require Face ID. It showed up after I did. I appreciate your help and patience though
