College advice

So here I am finding myself well into the semester doing well in 3 out of 5 classes. I have a night time class that I know I cannot pass and a macroeconomics class. I find myself staring into the mirror wondering what to do. It is too late to drop the 2 classes. But, I plan on transferring next year. Should I try and retake the classes or attempt to drop the class?

Thanks, Heinz

is it intermediate macro? if so then remember this: you can go ahead and do a PhD in economics and you will still always remember intermediate macro as being "special". plough through it and study hard - it separates the men from the boys. i wish you luck.

A late DROP on your transcript isn't going to look as bad as a D or an F. I'd try to get out of the class if at all possible. If you came to me asking though, I'd be willing to consider granting a late drop on one class, but unless you had some sort of incredible extenuating circumstance, I doubt I'd grant you two.

Pick your battle.

There is always the military. I was not happy with the school I was going to and I wanted to get out and actually live a little so I joined the Air Force. I got training I could not get any other way, the GI bill and some real direction in my life. Now, I work as a defense contractor making more than any of my friends who went to college, I am 3 classes from finishing my degree (for free, thank you Uncle Sam) and I am the better person for it. It's not that college was not for me or I could not hack it (3.8 GPA) I was just not motivated at that time. I would say it's the best decision I ever made.

Try talking with your professors.

Seek out tutoring.

Do everything you possibly can to drop those classes. Otherwise they will haunt you for years.

First off, they will make it horribly difficult to get accepted into another good school, even if you retake the classes and average up your final grade. And if you don't retake them at your current school, you will never be able to do anything with those failing grades.

Don't delay, go in directly to everyone you can talk to and plead for a hardship exception to allow you to drop/withdraw from these classes now. Don't wait until next week, do it today. Think up a single good excuse for why you didn't drop earlier, and why you can't possibly catch up now. (And you really can't catch up now, right? You absolutely can't get a tutor and nail the finals and pull out passing grades?)

Make sure the excuse is bullet-proof if they ask for proof, and don't change your story with everyone you talk to because they might share notes. Don't go for a dead relative thing unless you can hand over an obituary page.

You don't want anything on your transcript that you must explain. In your case, a "D/F" is worse than a "W."

A GPA doesn't take into consideration a "W," but it does a "D."

I think you are a freshman correct? continue to take the classes and do your best. most colleges offer some sort of freshman repeat so if you fail you can take it again with no penalty. and next semester just take 4 classes please. caio

Wait, why is he taking econ as a freshman? I thought typical freshman courses are calculus, english, history, health, programming, etc? At least at my school it was...

I managed to get a hold of my Intro to Business prof. Looks like he will let me turn my stock report in as scheduled. (He wanted them a week early)

Haven't been able to get a hold of my Macroeconomics professor, but I am just going to hit the study sheets and write up 2 papers. Hopefully all will go well.

Being an Economics and Political Science major I tried to take 3 business/government oriented classes to ease myself on in. Due to the externalities in an out of the classroom. I found myself overcome with a plethora of stress and homework.

On a side note. Almost joined the marines this past week a few years earlier as planned. Dam parents....

Special thanks to everyone for the advice

Drop the class and try to take the other pass/fail. Your GPA should be the most important thing to you right now.

If it was me (at my school we have the option to do the repeat-delete) which means even if I fail I can repeat the class with an A and completely erase that F from the transcript.. I have actually done that and I am re-taking my Comparative World Literature class and I am getting a B halfway through the semester :] I try not to overload though and I am only taking 12 units (4 classes) and they are all GE. I am not the type to have lots of classes and expect myself to do well because no matter how hard i try at it I will be overwhelmed in the end. Specially with work and all.
Worse comes to worse.. get tutoring. lol works for me
