We are watching the hope for Haiti and it is just heartbreaking. We should all TRULY be thankful for our cars, our health and the opportunities we have.

I've done some small donations here and there when I see them at the store. I'm thinking about taking some time off and heading down there to volunteer. Money only does so much in a disaster like that.

IMO, the best thing a charity could do is a "tool drive" for Haiti. Basic things like hammers, saws, nails, etc. will be needed in the deconstruction/reconstruction effort.

Also, that country needs some serious economic engineering. They have NO industry. Actually, they didn't have any viable industry prior to the earthquake(s). Haiti has been a money pit for years. They need to get the corruption out, get the gangs out, and (re)start their agricultural industry. Hopefully Monsanto doesn't take advantage of the situation Shock Doctrine style (unlikely, and yes, I'm a Naomi Kline fan despite my conservative tendencies).

BTW, MontegoGoGoGo, that Cadillac was grossly under-utilized. Seriously, 1,700 miles a year? That's 4.5 miles a day...

I've donated and currently waiting on some volunteering info. I was deciding between either time or money but the hell with it, I can afford to do both so why not.

I encourage people to donate what they can. I know at times like this it's hard for many of us to give away a small portion of what little we have but just remember that we are still better off. So let's say you have $50, how about giving $10 of that? You can always make more money but the people need help now.

I saw some of the releif celebrity drive. While it would be cool to speak to one of the celebs (if you get one?) my work is running a donation-matching program. I figured I'd double the bang for the buck and will donate through them instead.

No, I have not and I am not going to donate to Haiti. I feel very bad for what happened to them but I get really tired of people slamming the US when we are usually the first to help and offer the most. Heard a story the other day about our "slow response". Ok, how about "no response" which is what I am going to do.

I will be making a donation to a US charity this month. Maybe St. Jude's Chlidren's or something to help people in need in the US.

Just curious. For the people who donated or are going to donate, where was your sense of charity/do-right in Haiti before the earthquake?

call me an asshole, but that's what i'm sayin'. my $10 text message donation is nothing like the ~$40k check i'm going to be writing the government soon. they're already sending money over there and to pay some lazy person's mortgage.

Actually, I do a lot of pro-bono work for an organization that makes a specially enriched peanut butter for children in Haiti.

I do agree with helping our country first, and we personally give much more to the US than anywhere else. BUT I'd rather give money to someone who has no OPPORTUNITY, as opposed to some lazy, baby-factory, wellfare-collecting, crack head. Unfortunately, we don't have a choice in that matter.

Yeah, my grandma left it to me about 3 years ago and haven't had the heart to sell it, so it just sits there. She literally only used it to get her hair done and go to the grocery store.

We just moved and don't have the garage space for it. Sold it yesterday though, I need to take that down, lol.
