I can see they're probably setting those fees really high to discourage people from surrendering their pets, but I can't help think that probably contributes a lot towards the abandonment of animals. Sad.

That's ridiculous. What do they charge to adopt a pet?

Adoption Fees

Cats and Kittens $125
Dogs (6 months and up) $260
Puppies (under 6 months) $350
Barn Friends - Goats, Pigs, Sheep $150
Horses (rideable) $500
Horses (pasture pals) $350
Rabbits $100

What does your adoption fee help cover? All our feline and canine friends are spayed/neutered, microchipped, have age appropriate vaccinations, have been dewormed, given flea preventative, our cats are tested for FELV/FIV, our dogs are heartworm tested and of course they have been lovingly cared for by our amazing staff at our facility, all of this cost money. So, you can see our adoption fees don't even begin to cover everything we do to get your new beloved family member ready for you.

Our local volunteer fire department does a Christmas Eve caravan every year, slowly driving Santa Claus around fire trucks every street in their fire district with lights/sirens and giving out candy canes.

The mortal enemy of our OCD psycho dog is the garbage truck. In his furry little head, a fire truck is just a garbage truck that howls. Since we live on a dead-end road, he had plenty of time to get outside and prepare to meet his howling nemesis as they were turning around.

After the last of the trucks had passed on their way out and he stopped howling along with them, he made a bee line to the spot on our front lawn where the arson dog took a leak last spring on the day when the neighbor's house burned down. It's been 6+ months now, but he still is OCD enough to remember that dog disrespecting his kingdom the last time that the howling fire trucks appeared.....

He's OCD! When he gets into The Mighty Dodge, he still to this day immediately stares at the ceiling where my watch made a reflection spot from the sun back in 2013 when we were on a road trip.

Yesterday was interesting. The only thing more important to him than my DW is his grandma. Many times when the in-laws come to visit, they go directly to our basement and start tinkering with things. When OCD psycho dog heard the boiler installers working in the basement yesterday, he immediately assumed that grandma was hiding from him and went into full knucklehead mode with his ear-piercing grandma yip trying to get her attention! Taking him outside to look into the basement and see that grandma wasn't there did not calm him down.

I brought him back inside, and did a video call to my in-laws so that grandma could calm him down. It took him a few minutes to catch on, but he finally realized that she wasn't at our house. He then picked up his special grandma fetch ball, so that he could play a game of remote fetch while I held the phone and threw the ball. He didn't go knucklehead for the rest of the day, and ignored the boiler installers after that.....

She Ok, thanks for asking. Still no word from the vet on the tissue samples they took. Apparently it can take up to 4 weeks. Feels like forever.

She's definitely not 100% and probably never will be give her age. She loves the snow though and was super excited to see it in the back yard so we let her run around for about 5 minutes then brought her in to warm up as it was in the low 20s. Too cold for an old, short haired, dog.

Hope the tests come back with good results. Makes me think of my cat, that we had before our current cat, who got sick. We had to have him euthanized because he was dying from lymphoma. He had it for several months. We tried chemo, steroids, many trips to the vet, lots of tests and lots of money, but it was no use. He was going to die.

On his last day we gave him everything he loved: his favorite food, favorite toys and his most comfy places. He enjoyed it all and honestly had a very good last day.

When we took him to the vet to be euthanized, I am the one who gave him to the tech. I gave him a last hug and a kiss, and left that place balling like a baby. Loved that cat more than any other, and I've had cats all my life. He was 14 years old.

Our current girl is about 10yo. When the time comes, if at all possible due to the circumstances, we will have her euthanized here at home, as I've mentioned here before. Don't want to watch her die but want to make sure she goes peacefully and quietly, in her own home where she is comfortable, and hopefully not scared. Want her to be with her family, who loves her.

PS - wishing the best for Bella.

Here's our puppers posing for mommy. He's been eyeing the presents all month waiting for mommy to come back home from working out of town.

Thanks for this. We will be doing the at-home thing when the time comes. I've heard a few stories like yours of handing your best friend over to the vet tech and its just awful. At home is the only way to go I think.

Well, here's to hoping I dont have to think about that for a while! One day at a time. Yesterday was a good day and hopefully today will be as well.
