Saw the first 2 episodes of Yellowjackets. Very much a Lord of the Flies type of story but w/ added drama. I think it'll lose my interest with the way it hops between present and past, though.

Have this recording. Previews look like it will involve some political messaging, but gonna give it a try.

From Wikipedia:
"Mayor of Kingstown follows the powerful McLusky family, power brokers in Kingstown, Michigan, where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry. Tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption and inequality, the series provides a stark look at their attempt to bring order and justice to a town that has neither." Actually, someone just copied the description from Paramount Plus' website to Wikipedia: https://www.paramountplus.com/shows/mayor-of-kingstown/

Over here Yellowjackets comes on right after Dexter. Dexter is really solid, put it this way I stop scrolling on my phone when it's on.
Yellowjackets...wife likes it a lot, i can take t or leave it. There's a solid premise and story there but I just don't like the directing. EVERY scene seems to have sex in it in some way shape or form. I am no prude but it seems so forced, it doesn't go 5 minutes without something sexual and it adds nothing but trying to be edgy. It's a bit scattered too, jumping all over the place. It'd also be good if Juliette Lewis didn't play a scattered, droopy, messed up piece of work for once in her fucking life. It also bothers me that it says they crashed in Ontario only to see relentless mountain vistas, Ontario is flat as a tack, like how hard is it to get this right? |

I know what the show is about. I read the synopsis before I started watching it. There’s nothing political about systemic racism, corruption, or inequality. They’re not manufactured concepts. They can be made to be political but, in the current environment that can be true with respect to just about anything. In the two episodes I’ve watched there’s nothing that would indicate they’re establishing the predicate to send a political message.

Edit: Got 1/2 way through first episode. Don't know if they will get into playing politics, but found the show unwatchable anyway. So that's the end of that.

I just started episode 2 of Mayor of Kingstown on Paramount+ and Jeremy Renner and Kyle Chandler are very good. I would not want to anger either one but it’s Diane Weiss that I’m afraid of…

My wife and I would love to add this to our list once we finish up Dexter our current daily watch. Kingstown is filmed in Kingston Ontario, we live just north of the city. I have to figure out how to watch it in Canada, damn streaming services.

Liking this one which I just started watching, kinda like Sliding Doors w Gwyneth Paltrow. It's neat that they don't spend too long of a time in one timeline so you're not zoned out and everything is kept up-to-date, a nice balance the director manages to pull off.
For some strange reason I forgot about this one but luckily found it again. Lots of interesting twists and storylines.
