It's because of "crashgate". Many of us feel Felipe Massa should have been awarded the 2008 WDC...certainly Massa feels that way.

I should add that Timo Glock, in the Toyota running 5th in the Brazilian GP, appeared to offer no resistance to allowing Hamilton to pass...gifting the needed spot to out-point Massa by 1. Viewed by many as shameful.

Basically Ecclestone and Mosley conspired to coverup Crash Gate to not tarnish F1's reputation. Massa has filed a lawsuit, read below.

....former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone revealed he and then FIA president Max Mosley knew that season already that Nelson Piquet Jr had been ordered by Renault to deliberately crash to set up Fernando Alonso for the win at the Singapore Grand Prix.

That Sunday, Massa had been leading the race when the Safety Car came out for Piquet Jr’s crash, Alonso, who had already pitted, elevated to P1 when his rivals, including Massa and Lewis Hamilton who had yet to stop, came in for their pit stops.

Ferrari had a nightmare pit stop as they released Massa with the fuel hose still attached to his car. Adding insult to injury they also released him into the path of another car and he was slapped with a 10-second time penalty for an unsafe release. He finished well outside the points in 13th place while Hamilton was on the podium in third place.

However Ecclestone, having admitted to knowing about Renault’s actions, says Formula 1 should have cancelled the race which would cost Hamilton those six points thus making Massa the World Champion.

Everyone is saying Lando was lucky with the SC. I don’t see it that way. If RB would have had a better setup or strategy Max could have stayed out like Lando did to pit under the SC. Whether setup or strategy McLaren out performed the RBs.

It maybe the only race that McLaren wins this year but for this race Lando had the best car and out drove Max(didn’t go off track and damage his car).

I’m a long time McLaren fan so maybe my perspective is skewed some but I’m very excited to see them competitive again.

Another truth? It takes an entire season to win the WDC. It's not solely decided in the last few laps of the last race. That or insider information and an additional 100hp.
