DST has nothing to do with farming. Franklin didn't have much to do with it plus precise time was not kept till the railway system was created.

The actual idea was created by a guy from New Zeland named George Hudson. The Germans where the first to incorporate it during WWI in order to save on coal. The US did not introduce DST till after WWI. And again it had to do with conserving resources and not farming.

I was just talking to my wife about why we even do this as a planet. So on a certain day everyone in the world just changes their clocks together? I never understood it. Thought it was something with the geometry of the earth to the sun or something

At least we have internet now to help with it.

In the Northern part of Europe during the middle of the summer that is exactly how it is... it gets dark at 9:30-10 and then is bright again at 2:30-3:00 AM

Then the winter comes and it gets bright at noon and dark at 3PM...

You can't win em all...

Correct for modern DST. However the first to suggest the concept was Mr $100 bill. Conceptually helpful for agrarian societies.

Anyhow, whatever the reason, it sucks.

For the people that work a day job and like/need to do things outside after work I can't understand why they aren't for it. I guess if you don't go outside or go out just to get into your car a lot of your problems go away, everything from daylight to the weather doesn't matter much anymore.

Yeah, not sure why we switch back and forth. I'd rather be on the current schedule year- round. When it's cold outside I could care less when it gets dark, cause I'm either not going to be outside or I'll be so bundled up that day vs. night won't matter.
