Many times, and I’ve flown through (changed planes) there as well. And pretty much every major city and airport in the country. What’s that song, “I’ve been everywhere”?

i don't think i would fly without TSA Pre at this point... its truly a convenience and the line typically moves FAR faster than the regular one even if its longer... not removing shoes, belt, outerwear or laptop is very comfortable... it's also cheap for 5 years

the only thing I've always questioned is the process by which one gets it... which seems to be more like pay to play security theater than actual security

i've made this point many times... its super convenient but whether this is truly a true security check is highly questionable.. its basically security theater more than anything... however as someone once told me... security theater is often more important than actual security

the airline industry is cooked at this point and has been for many years... we should have blocked the mergers that happened 10 years ago that reduced legacy airlines from 6 to 3... if you can't make a business case, then you should simply go bankrupt and start over... this the position spirit is in right now... i love spirit but like anyone with any business... come up with a profitable model

there are key routes in this country that are still far to cheap whereas lower volume routes are far too expensive... also flying cross country for 250 simply isn't feasible yet airlines pump it left and right to gain market share

Nothing is free. People who want to go through the process and quicker lines pay for it. The alternative is everyone pays for it in the form of another government fee added to ticket prices and if you don't go through the application process, you can't fly.

While I agree that nothing is free, I would just point out that I pay a shit ton of federal taxes which support the TSA (in part).

But to the specific point, there are a certain number of machines and agents necessary for the number of flyers at each airport, and that does not change whether there is precheck, regular check, or any other segmentation going in. So there is no incremental cost of pre-check (except the people processing the applications), and possible a reduction in per-traveler cost (since the pre-checks are less thorough or more machine if you prefer). And again, the “higher” service level should simply be available to all travelers.

2025 we will spend 11.7 billion on a security system that only functions to impair regular travellers, prop up airport vending scam prices, drive people to check bags for money because they have incorrectly prohibited items, and fail every penetration test they encounter.

But dumb people will feel more safe because the Muslim guy on their plane got cavity searched.

Make the airlines pay for security they can legally justify doing, fund it with fare prices, shrink the volume of flights in the us... oh wait that will hurt "the economy" don't do that!

It’s government so I expect processing all those applications (and everything else the TSA does) costs 10x what it should cost and our federal taxes already don’t cover all the government spending so realistically they would need revenue of some kind. Those who fly frequently would end up paying more and those who don’t would pay less if it is a per ticket fee (which would be fine by me). But it still leaves the problem of requiring applications of everyone who travels and having infrequent travelers and perhaps some international visitors show up and not being able to get through security. There isn’t really a way to make it available to everyone in its current form. They would need to rethink the entire process of security, which is also fine by me. But that would take 10 or more years of deliberations, studies and rolling it out. For now, I’ll pay for the quicker line even though I don’t fly frequently.

You may or may not know this but you don't always have to take your shoes off or laptop out of your bag in the regular line anymore.

Pre Check is the best $85 or whatever I’ve ever spent. What motivated me to get it was accidentally leaving my work laptop at security and not realizing it until it was too late. I never have to worry about that again. I would use the pre check line for that reason alone if the regular line was shorter.

Whenever I fly with someone who doesn’t have it, I am waiting for them at the other side of security. At my local airport, there is only one TSA Agent checking ID’s, and I am able to get in front of non-pre check people pretty often.

People in general who have pre check fly fairly often, so they know the routine at security, which is one reason why it moves faster.
