Wow, I had no idea. It appears the details can be quite deep.

grundy dropped me because even though my record was clean, i had gotten married and now my wife was in the same residence, and she filed a claim a few years ago. they didn't even raise my rate, just flat out dropped me.

side note i did check with state farm, great rates.. but they do not have an agreed value policy which is a complete no go for my gt3.
Was Grundy your only policy? We've had multiple claims on our other cars that are insured with another insurer & I have zero issues with my Grundy collector car policy. I increased my agreed value last year based on sales of similar vehicles & no questions were asked about the value I wanted.

State Farm had great rates when we switched two years ago for both home & auto. They've increased them 20-25% at every 6-month renewal. I'm paying almost exactly double what I paid when I switched. All I get is the "corporate wanted to increase your rates by 50% but because you're such a good customer, we fought for only a 25% increase".

I've looked into bringing all my vehicles over to Grundy, but their premium for my "regular" vehicles is about the same as SF, and a lot more for my home. My son turns 16 this week & gets his license, I'm dreading the insurance bill even on his 2003 Wrangler X.

I have geico for my regular policy, and put the toys on grundy. the basic explanation i got was that since my wife had filed a claim in the last 5 years they couldn't insure me, and that they had 'tough times' and needed to cut out anyone with a claim. maybe because i was younger? but i had a 458 and f80 insured with them when i was 30 and only paid like 2700/year. Hagerty has my Gt3 at 3k a year.

My wife has been with Erie Insurance since before we were married which is over 30 years together now. We have five vehicles and the home owners through them.

Five vehicles cost us almost 3K per year with full coverage on 4 out of the 5 vehicles.

We just had a call the other day with our agent and she was able to drop our rates by about $200 just based on all vehicles being driven under 5,000 per year.

I still wonder if there is less expensive insurance out there but being that my wife has been with them so long, she can never be dropped as a customer.

Cheers!

The only issue I had with them was when I initiated the policy they said my wife's driving record (a few speeding tickets when she was younger) would cause an increase in the premium. She signed an affidavit that she wouldn't drive the Callaway (she doesn't anyway) & that was that. I just renewed my policy and have had 3 no fault claims on our other vehicles in the last 4 years - no issues. My Callaway is $1200/yr for $95k agreed value.

Grundy would be much cheaper than what I pay State Farm, but can't even drive to the store to go shopping. It's ok to just drive around aimlessly, though.

I don't have any such restrictions on my Grundy policy.

Heard great things about Haggerty, will be moving there for my modifies vehicle.
Currently have progressive for all 4 cars but I've been burned twice now so I'll shop around and may go back to Amica - who had always treated me well 10-15 years ago, just a little more expensive.

What I found interesting was the candid conversations with a handful of body shops, many recommended to street clear of Progressive since they were huge pains to deal with both for the car owner and the shop doing the repair.

Grundy is for non-daily-use cars, and in fact they require you to have a daily to keep it that way.

Put another way, it's fair-weather insurance for fair-weather cars.

Captain Obvious is obvious. I have another car to drive, but for example, Spring & Summer = Miata gets the most use for obvious reasons.

I've got State Farm insurance for my vehicles. Currently a 2024 Honda Ridgeline and a 2024 BMW M8 Competition Coupe.

Last November when I added the M8 to my policy then in January added the Ridgeline I got the feeling premiums were being pulled out of the air.

And the heretofore good service had gone south. I talked to my agent and he told me State Farm had switched to a new system (software system) and well, it's always the software...

Being quite put off by all this I solicited insurance quotes from AAA, Gieco, Hagerty, Grundy, Progressive.

At least one of the above companies (Hagerty?) had my BMW M8 listed as a car it would insure while my Honda Ridgeline wasn't listed. I preferred to have both vehicles insured with the same company.

I received quotes from all companies I contacted. In some cases the quote was a bit less expensive than I was paying but the quote didn't include any coverage details.

Guess the intent was to have me contact an agent and then get the hard sell.

I had financed part of the M8's purchase ($20K) and was planning on after 3 payments paying the balance off -- which I just did a few days ago -- then after having the car titled in my name seriously shopping for insurance so I was reluctant to switch insurance companies until then.

Oh and I bought the Ridgeline and while I paid cash for it I had to wait for the manufacturer's title then the AR state issued replacement title which showed I owned the vehicle with no lien.

So I suspended my insurance shopping.

But since then State Farm has resolved the goofiness that was blamed on the software change -- goofiness like *forcing* Drive Safe & Save (which I absolutely do not want) upon me.

And I received a nearly $300 refund for a premium over payment. Again some goofy software that I guess can't count...

Long story short is I'm still with State Farm. I've been with State Farm since August 2020 and until this I guess software change has always offered competitive pricing and good service. The recent upset appears to have been resolved.

I'll wait to see what the next (6 month) premium is and whether it is time to consider changing insurance companies.

I've been with State Farm since around 1999. Never had an issue with them with the handful of claims I've filed. They are however super stringent on what they will cover with roof repairs/replacement. I also shudder to think of the work needed to move all 10 of my State Farm policies.

But one thing that has happened once since being with them was one year I got a refund check in the mail from State Farm. They said because they're a mutual company and because claims were lower than they had projected, I was getting a refund check. Only time it's ever happened though.

On the subject of insuring toys, who here has utilized Hagerty's (or similar) track day insurance? Hagerty offers multiple types - HPDE, annual track coverage, etc. Curious what the experience has been.

I mean, you're asking for cheaper insurance with a Miata and wanting to go to the store with it?

Collector Car policy with agreed value. The only restriction is that it is not my daily driver (and that my wife can't drive it )

In my email to the agent I also explained others don't have the restrictions he told me I do.

His response was all policies have the same restrictions that he applied to me
