Yup Hamilton choked with brake magic, pressure does that it makes you forget to do things, not make you forget how things operate. The pit decisions weren't his call, Merc were afraid he'd get caught up in the pits. But max almost lost it because of his unwillingness to back down, he literally is unwilling to lose an inch and that's not going to be good for long term battles. But here's the other flaw with max, he gets emotional when things don't go his way. Getting time penalties when overtaking Lewis last year off track, repeating the over take on Charles on the first of two drs zones. And arguing with his engineers over not being allowed to push for tire and heating concerns. That's an intellectual short coming, not being able to think of the long game and letting emotions take over.

Lewis isn't perfect but he has 7 titles and the most F1 wins ever. Max still needs to get there and maybe he will but he needs to improve on his emotional side of things and control his agression to have the best chance of getting there. But first he still had to become the greatest redbull driver ever, because right now that's still Sebastian Vettel who in his prime who looked unstoppable.

Remember, Hamilton was only able to win 7 titles due to his car, Rosberg was able to win his, with the same exact car and good strategy before he retired.

As we can see, give him a inferior car and even George Russell can drive better than he can, minus this weekends Qualifying, but at no fault of his own.

What strategy? Hamilton beat Rosberg in qualifying and number of wins. Hamilton had 1 more DNF than Rosberg when his engine failed on lap 41 of the Malaysian GP which he was comfortably leading.

And even then, Rosberg only won the championship by 5 points.

OF course mclaren and alpine solved it, but it's just that their cars arent fast. And the RB is. So looks like a pretty important innovation. Being fast. Because that's what it's all about.

This is not an example of emotions taking ove, it's an example that the driver was right and the engineers not.
If there's one point that both RB and MAx outclass MERC/HAM it's on the intellectual point.
MERC and HAM are notorious for constantly making the wrong decisions when they need to be made in the heat of the battle. Wrong tyres, not coming in for tyres, forgetting to set your car to the right parameters (brake magic) etc etc. They constantly make those mistakes and don't seem to learn from them. That is by far their weakest point. Strategic thinking in short timespans.
And that's pretty much RB's strongest point. Max has an uncanny predisposition to think ahead and feel what is the right decision to make. Knowing when to come in or not etc. Like last year in sochi for example, or of course last year abu dhabi.

It's not an innovation if it's able to be created by everyone given the tools to do so, it's an innovation if it's a never thought of concept. Here's the difference everyone knows about porpoising from the early ground effects cars and all were trying to stop it via design, so everyone knew about it nothing special. The fact that other teams were able to do actually stop it is very good design, it's not creating something new and never seen before. Even if you counted it, that's literally 1 innovation vs. the countless ones Mercedes debuts every year, showing Mercedes is indeed more innovative. If you have counter evidence please list innovation for innovation of every team and let's see which team is out doing Mercedes.


So he only won by having the best car? That logic applies to max last year too. The rb16b was the fastest car for the first half of the year, get Hamilton managed to hang on and keep it close during this first half. what does this say about max then? Also why wasn't max able to win before? I thought the car doesn't matter? I always said it's both, you can never win without a good car and you need to be a good driver to capitalize. Like I doubt Latifi could win even in the w11, he'd get beaten by his team mate or wouldn't be consistent enough when it's needed.


The not pitting for tires was only a relevant mistake when Lewis started on inters, on the final race lasted year mercedes expected those lapped cars to remain in place but Masi single handedly allowed them to lap - and this was deemed a wrong move in investigation. So max was literally handed the win. The button mistake was also a rare mistake under pressure. Mercedes haven't made as many mistakes as you'd like to believe...


If you want to see mistakes look at one example from last season portimao. Max had the fastest quali lap in Q3 but botched it by going wide off track limits. Then max botched a few corners in the race letting Lewis pass him on the 8th lap with drs. Then he decided to go out for new softs to get the fastest lap and messed up on one of the corners and lost that to Bottas.


Hamilton has also demonstrated intellectual talent as well, when he decided not to box in Turkey on the worn intermediates and won that race as they turned to slicks. Then the Mercedes double stop that allowed them to over take max last year in a slower car was also Incredible.


Max has also shown when he's flustered he makes idiotic decisions like weaving to defend and brake checks. Like when he and Riccardo bother DNF'ed because max weaved on the striaghts to defend against ric.



Like I said before max still has a long way to go before he can even approach the goat conversation, there is 6 more titles for him to win, and if you guys want to say it's not the car he's going to have to win every year regardless of the state of the redbull.
