My back mostly held up for my round yesterday but I needed the first 12 holes and a couple beers to get warmed up. I was really loose the last few holes and the balls were flying pretty good.

I had one of my best golf shots of my life on hole 17. It was a 315 yard par 4. I drove it on the green to about 25 feet from the pin. Left the eagle putt 2 feet short but tapped in for birdie.

I adjusted the loft down on my driver to the lowest setting. This really helped with getting more distance off the tee. I need to get out more and build on the good things that were happening.

That is good to hear. Usually takes me a good 4 holes to get loose. I try and hit the range before each tee time but sometimes that doesn't happen.

I bet that was an unreal feeling of driving the green. I know I walk a little taller and have a sense of "fuck yea" when I do it every time. At least you didn't 3 putt...so that is a plus!

Where did you play at again?

I did the same thing with my new driver. Its a 9* loft and I took it down to 8.2-8.3* loft and my balls go so much farther. Before...I was robbing myself of yardage because the ball would go so high in the air. Glad I did. Making a huge difference in my game.

Go back out today..keep that feeling! Even if it's just for 30mins. I wish I could!

I played at a course near my house in the Twin Cities, MN. Yeah the feeling was incredible when I hit that drive. I had another drive on a 360 yard par 4 that I yanked left but it went pretty far. I went to go find my ball and it was on the tee box of the following hole next to four guys teeing off. Oops! That one rolled out to 325 or so. I had to hit over a large tree to make the green with a bunch of dudes watching. Hit it within 15 feet and just barely missed the birdie putt. My new ping 54 degree wedge has added some serious juice to my 90 yards and closer game.

What i need to do is just practice putting for an hour a week. That's where I'm adding the most strokes. The other parts of my game are manageable for now.

Yeah it does appear that way. However, I am paying for it today with back pain. I'm 44 and I still think I can hit it as far as I did in my twenties. I can.....maybe not as consistently but to the detriment of my body. Along with losing lots of balls swinging like I'm in a long drive contest.

I am amazed at how well my right shoulder has held up over the years of golfing. Especially the past 3 years. I had three surgeries on my right shoulder due to pitching and last October, I tore my right bicep playing sand volleyball. No issues with my shoulder other than always feeling sore but it doesn't effect my swing at all.

Well, played in our Tuesday from the tips today in windy conditions. OK tips here is about 6500 yards. Had an incredible round with 4 under on the front. I never shot my age before and when I bogied 13 and 14 I thought it was slipping away.

16 is a 185 yard uphill into the wind par 3 playing about 195 today. Full 5 iron for me. Aced it.

Closed with a 69 and finally shot my age. (one under actually).

Only goal left in golf now is an albatross that has eluded me. Come on golf gods. Throw me a bone just once and I can close out the books.

Hell yeah! Congrats on the Ace! I bet that felt unreal! Did you get a plaque and free life time golf there?

Sounds like you played pretty damn well and the Golf God's were in your favor yesterday! Very exciting stuff!

I have week 4 of my work golf league tonight and playing 18 on Saturday with some friends at a pretty long course (6920 yards). Looking forward to it! Would love to play a course that is over 8000 total yards. I saw a picture there is a hole in Japan that is over 964 yards and a par 7. That would be awesome to play!

Thanks guys. I got all the breaks. Funniest part of the ace was I didn't think it was in. it is an elevated green and usually the only way to hold it from that distance is to hit into the hill just in front and have it bounce on. The back half of the green is death as it rolls 20 yards away. I carried the green and expected it to be off the back. When I couldn't find it my buddy started talking ace and I'm like no way.

6900 is more than this old man can handle now. I did once play a course in Thailand listed as the longest course in he country at 8075 yards par 72. Kabin Buri. Of course we weren't playing the tips. Heck some of the carries to get over the jungle were 275 yards. CARRY.

So, golf has been a struggle the past 3 times I have been out. Last Wednesday, this past Saturday (18 holes) and last night.

Driving the ball is garbage. 7-9i are having issues as well. It's like I lost how to swing a golf club. However, my wedge game has been bailing me out.

I am planning on seeing my golf pro here within the week when he gets back from vacation to dial it back in. I think I need to see him once per month to keep things dialed in. It hasn't been fun to say the least..

I bought a new Qi35 Max 4H hybrid and have been hitting that pretty consistently around 200 yards. I am looking at maybe getting a 7H...anyone thoughts on this?

Most of the time I play, I barely touch - if at all - my 3W, 4i, 5i, 6i, or 7i. I played 18 with a partial-bag recently (Driver, 3H, 4-6-8-PW-56-64, putter all crammed into a sunday bag) and still shot a 90. Not my best round but it was windy as hell and had nothing to do with what clubs I took. Even with that setup, the 4 and 6 didn't get touched at all the entire round.

Most of that I attribute to being able to hit pretty consistently no matter how I'm feeling for the day and I just *know* it's going to be an 80%/90% day instead of a 100% day and adjust accordingly.

So I would say - whatever you hit consistently, build your game around.

Golf is a humbling game. I posted my triumphant HIO and shooting my age. Well, then there are days like today.

Went and played Verde River golf course today from about 6300 yards. A nice crisp - 93. Yikes.

Thanks for the reply and insight. I use my driver, 5i, 7i and 9i. 52w, 56w but manly my 60w. Now I use my 4H a lot if I am around 200-210yards from the pin. I would think if I upgraded to a 7H, I could use it in place of my 7i-9i. I hardly ever or never use my 6i and 8i.

I have a text out to my golf instructor to get his thoughts.

Golf is certainly a humbling game indeed!

So I took off this past Friday to complete some minor house projects that have been needing to get done. After getting my daughter on the school bus, I ran up to a golf sim place to hit some balls for about an hour. I was able to figure out a little bit why I was slicing so much again and got that 80% dialed in with some consistency. Will try and work with my coach this week / next week.

I have never used all of my clubs on a sim before. I pulled out the clubs I used the most and hit each one 5 times to get a yardage average so I had a better understanding of my game. Happy I did and took screen shots of each number after I was done.

I hit the links on Sunday with a buddy. My driver and putter were so volatile. However, most clubs in between were pretty darn good. I had several approach shots that set me up for nice birdie chances but I couldn't convert any of them- see my comment earlier about my putter. One shot that really stuck out was 5 iron from 195 out over trees with a blind shot to the green. I flushed it and it landed pin high and stuck 15 feet away. It was quite the satisfying par because of course I had to two putt.

I need to go to the range just with my driver and work out the demons. It was either pulling or pushing into another fairway or I smashed it 300 down the middle. So weird. Then I need to spend some time on the putting green.

The irons felt so good though so that made the day for me.

I bet that 5i shot felt amazing until you had to tee off again on the next hole! Happens to me everytime! lol. Hit an unbelievable shot and start feeling good, then time to tee off on the next hole and totally shank the shit out of it. Not a good feeling at all! lol. Highs and lows of golf!

Spoke to my golf instructor and he suggested I get the 6H in addition to the 4H I have. Which is the TaylorMade Qi35 Max Hybrid. I would need to get it custom from TaylorMade since right off the shelf they don't make it with a stiff flex.

I can usually get more comfortable as my round goes on and I can get more consistency with the driver and by the last few holes it's almost hard to moss a fairway. I had the yips for some reason.

6 iron hybrid?? I must be old school as I'd rather roll with blade irons vs hybrid. I do have 3 and 4 iron hybrids as they were the only options to match my Ping set. I don't hit them too often so I don't care that much to try and replace them. However, when I put my driver on a time-out i was hitting the 3 iron off the tee with pretty good luck.

I would go with 10 shots each.

Also keep in mind that you're hitting under THE most ideal and forgiving conditions/lie.

ALSO also I hope you grabbed your carry numbers and not just total distance.

If, say, you're averaging 130y with your 9i out of 10 shots, I'd shave 5y or so off of that in "normal" / avg course conditions.

Yup! 6H! I have been hitting my 4H beautifully and I have a hard time hitting my high irons. If I could just get a 6H and hit it the same as my 4H then I feel like things would be coming together!

I could never hit my 3i and 4i the way I hit my hybrid currently.

So true of most of us. I feel lucky I can still hit a good 5i at 70. In my younger years I hit a mean 2i but now laugh at the thought of carrying one.

That is why I want to get the 6H. I feel more confident hitting my hybrid than I do my irons. So it's a no brainer for me to add it to the bag.

Once I do get the 6H, I will go to the range and see how far consistently I hit it and look at removing 1 - 2 irons from my bag. Then I will feel my club game is in a great spot. Keep in mind...these irons I got brand new back in 2001, so the tech from then to now is beyond light years better.

I carry a 3i Hybrid replacing both 4i and 3i. But I can hit it further than either if I catch it. YMMV.

Honestly I'm hitting it from 200 yards + so actually hitting it straight and for controlled distance is a bit laughable.
