Oh fuck, this looks a lot like the X3 spy photos. I hope it won't be as ugly in and out...

So far, I'm not a fan of the Neue Klasse interpretation on BMW's SAVs. This is one of the reasons we ordered a 2025 X5 xDrive 40i to replace the ever-lasting 2015 X5 xDrive 35d we had. Because after seeing the X3 in photos and then in person, I could see things were not changing for the better IMHO. Besides the overall shape, I'm really disappointed about the rear door intersection at the rear fender, as seen also on this X5 spy photo. I know, many manufacturers are doing this; Audi, Range Rover, Porsche, and others, but it still looks cheap to me, which it is cheaper to build without a section of body to intersect the rear door edge and protect it from the elements. No, the 2025 GO5 is about as far from the prior BMW design language as I care to go for now. And while I am finding the screen easy to navigate with iDrive 8.5, I do still miss the physical HVAC buttons, which is another cost savings move, and less of a positive direction in design, IMHO.

Some signs are pointing to buttons returning. Let’s just hope the new x5 wasn’t too far down the design path before the winds started to turn on this whole iPad on wheels bullshit.

Per ynguldyn this recent thread, here's the latest info on the G65 X5 and iX5 BEV:

G65/G95 X5, iX5, X5M
  • In production 8/26-07/33
  • X5 model range: X5 40, 40 xDrive, 40d xDrive, 50e xDrive, M60 xDrive, M60e xDrive
  • iX5 models: 50 xDrive, 60 xDrive, M70 xDrive
  • G65 X5 will push hard into high luxury.
  • Expect many top level features currently only found on 7/X7 - from automatic doors to interior details, plus all the UI advancements we've been hearing about recently: Panoramic Vision, Augmented View, AR glasses integration, passenger side screen and "Ceremonial Light Carpet."
  • There's a good chance the BEV iX5 will only be introduced in 2027.
  • New style headlights will appear on M Sport models. They will have some distinctive color elements. Will be available on G50 and G65 first.

Our first spy shots of the iX5 BEV:

Prob due to the battery being so heavy and needing more room.

Like all modern BMW’s, silhouette seems traditional BMW, all comes down to what they do with the details. X3 looked promising until unwrapped and revealed the rest.

There is way too much gimmick in this automotive world now with papa Elon leading the way.
There isn’t anything to ‘fix’ with their cars, they’re al leading in their categories, and they’re doing great in terms of sales and critical acclaim.

“True car design” is your truth. There is never a ‘true’ car design, it’s always evolving.
Also, engineering and dynamics of BMW have never been as good as they are now. And BMW didn’t raise prices.

Is it just my eyes or does this look way smaller than regular X5 guise?

This looks like a bigger, more bulkier iX version to me.

Not in the market for a SUV, but if the interior quality goes the same route as the current models, I wouldn't want to ever drive one.

When my father was telling me 'they are not making quality cars any more' ~20 years ago, I was taking it as an 'old man not being able to adopt to *technology*' thing. Now I think I start to understand his point of view.

Makes perfect sense because the iX will be discontinued in 2028. This is intended to be the spiritual successor and take all the learnings from that I20 platform.

Zoom in on this one, passenger headrest. To me it looks like the same headrest as the “luxury” seat in the g60 - which is a dead give away that bmw is continuing their horrific cost cutting nature and ditching the true multi contour seat in the g05 for the new knock off cheaper, less configurable BS

And I wouldn't be shocked if they ruin the exterior anyhow (also like the X3).
According to some sources, BMW has taken note of customer dissatisfaction about the new 5er/M5 interior. So the 5er LCI will receive some major updates in the interior but the current 5 series is already getting mild interior updates that will lead up to the major ones in 2028. Hence why they said the new X5 will be more luxurious than ever before, the 5er will receive all the goodies that will come with the G65 X5.

No and good eye. Surely that’s some pre prod cladding or such. The way it meet at the B pillar is particularly gross.

Audi A6 All Road proportions rather than X5 traditional SUV. Will be an interesting reveal but this is the brand flagship so I’d expect it to be good with a conservative design.
