The city I live in, Newcastle, has a RAAF base about half an hour away.

On the weekend the RAAF put on an air show which was great.

The highlight was the F35A, the noise and speed is incredible.

A pic from my best mates balcony where we watched most of the show and a couple of crappy pics of the F35

Happy Thanksgiving to all the folks in the US

I hope you are having a peaceful and restful, long weekend.

I took a walk with one of my daughters, a couple of Saturday's back, in Oxford. It was pretty much a perfect Autumn day. We parked up in Iffley and headed through a little park, where some enthusiastic youth football (soccer) was in motion. Past the City of Oxford Rowing Club and over Donnington bridge. Along the Thames (or the Isis as it is colloquially known).

We had a look around the covered market and then through the very center, Queen Street and on to Jericho.

We stopped at our favorite cafe for a panini and some baklava. There were six of the poshest people I have heard outside of west London, crammed around a table for four, in the cafe. The conversation and phraseology was like listening to characters from a P. G. Wodehouse novel.

Crossing over the Banbury road and we are into the Park Town area. I love it here - but it makes me wish I had tried so much harder at school, or started an internet company selling books in the mid 90's

What can I say ... some lovely places!

We cut in to the University Parks. Absolutely beautiful in the park. Some soft sunshine and dappled light through the leaves. There is an incredible array of tree species.

From there, we head back into the center and to the market at Gloucester Green Town Square. Some great street food vendors. Would it be rude to have a second lunch? (We don't!)

A look around the shops and then back up the Thames to Iffley. A shade under 10 miles - quite happy with that.

We've had a pair of Bald Eagles hanging around our end of the lake the last week of so. This morning when I had the dogs out one of them landed on a small tree just out back of our property. The light wasn't great and I had to shoot through a bunch of branches so it was challenging getter a sharp focus and he wasn't really cooperating with me but I grabbed these two pics.

A fantastic, if labor-intensive, idea for an outdoor planter:
-- Cut tree down well above the ground (perhaps not quite as high as that in the photo)
-- Remove root ball and lower trunk (VERY labor intensive!)
-- "Plant" the tree in the ground upside-down with root ball at the top
-- Add soil and plant flowers in the root ball
