Encryption doesn't mean much if insider access bypasses any need to hack. Even if it's "pay for license to access", unless it's Bloomberg terminal levels of money it'll still be relatively easy to obtain.

I'm reminded of various movies going back decades that have portrayed this stuff and people still don't take it seriously / fully comprehend just how much can be done with the most seemingly innocuous information once it's all correlated together in certain ways.

There are mechanisms in place for voters to use to pull an elected official out of office. There have been recall efforts which failed. So the people of that state have spoken. They can't complain about policies that have negatively impacted the populous when they keep the same people in office.

I would submit that it's harder to get someone out of office than it seems on the surface.
