Got beaned in the head a few times myself during a rock fight. Also did my fair share of hurling a rock to the opposition's noggin and being spot on. All in good fun, of course.

This reminds me of when we got our heads shaved at the reception station
at Ft. Bliss, just before basic training. Nearly everyone had scars on their
scalp. As the clippers removed the hair, we pointed at various scars which
in turn produced a lot of stories about how it happened. Baseballs, bats,
rocks, bicycle crashes and on and on. We needed the laughs at the moment.

was the champion collector, having 100’s of comic books in a foot locker.
We read them over and over again.

My favorite when I was a kid was Spider-Man.

Read many different ones, including the Archie comics.

It's Howdy Doody time!

This photo montage includes host Buffalo Bob, Howdy Doody his own self, Flub-a-dub (what is that thing anyway?) and Clarabell the Clown. Another feature of the show, which first aired in 1947 and ran until 1960, was the Peanut Gallery which consisted of a couple of dozen little kids on little bleachers.

Speaking of ugly, ran across this photo of me recently. Date is December,
1969. Location is just a few miles from the Cambodian border. I was 22.5
years old at the time and had 3 months left in-country. I weighed 122 lbs.
when I got home.

The base was about 300 feet square and manned by a company of ARVN’s.
The ARVN’s were led by a 4-man American advisor team. The ARVN’s stole
us blind and even ate my mascot dog. I found the dog injured and starving.
I guess my mistake was nursing him back to health.

I grew up reading the comics in the newspaper. And Ann Landers. My mother called them the funnies. Even though I called them the comics I did say, and still do, frequently when leaving, “see you in the funny papers.”
