You know you’re old if you not only know what this is, but actually used it.

I used timing lights all the time back in the '60s when I was doing tune ups. Great tool. When I didn't have a timing light handy I'd adjust the timing by feel and sound, turning the distributor one way and then the other way until the car ran the most smoothly. I wonder how close my "estimate" was to the actually correct timing setting? I do not miss distributors, or carburetors for that matter.

I still have my Craftsman timing light from the late 1970’s. I have used it many times and it still works to this day. But really don’t need it for my late model cars.

When we were in grade school we made ashtrays for our parents in art class.
I actually did that. I guess I'm old! |

Was laughing the other day as we had a red warning weather event and advised not to travel unnecessarily. Wind gusts to 160 kmh / 100 mph. Main concern was south coast and told to stay indoors.
I had a paper run in my early teens on the south cost on a hill overlooking the ocean. On a stormy day you’d get wind beaten and hands would go blue from chill factor. We were expected to deliver papers regardless. Got blown off my bike a few times in that period but the expectation was the papers where to be delivered regardless of weather…. No excuses ! Instead I spent a bit of time communicating with staff with a message, don’t go into work today 😀 Last edited by NealfromNZ; 05-09-2025 at 06:34 AM.. |

When the DJ on SiriusXM is talking about "50 albums turning 50" and starts naming some great ones.. and you realize that was your senior year of high school.

At age 81, Richards has been though a lot of hard living. But he wasn't a bad-looking lad back in the beginning...

In Jr. High we could freelance in shop class if we'd finished the assignment and had time left, so we would typically spot-weld pieces of scrap sheet metal together to make a "Mr. Bill" and then put him through the ringer yelling "Oh nooooo" the whole time. I'm not sure what the shop teacher thought of us other than he was glad we weren't doing the favorite forbidden activity of many in shop class - cutting scrap sheet metal into "throwing stars" and trying to stick them into the very high ceiling. A bit more of a safety hazard, that.

In our schools, a common junior high school shop class project was making wall-mounted rifle/shotgun racks.
High school shop students would make custom wood shotgun stocks, and more than once a shotgun was brought into the school to be shortened on the shop's band saw. Get off my lawn, kid..... ![]()
