So it turns out the 45e is an I6 rather than an I4 as was used in the outgoing 40e:

This surprises me because I had expected more power from BMW's second generation I6 hybrid setup when it finally hit the market, such as perhaps a "50e" with 450hp or even more. Per the X5 45e press release, the TwinPower I6 used in this application is the least powerful BMW has ever released for regular production - nearly 100hp shy (on its own) of the new B58B30O1 coming soon to the G20 M340i and G29 Z4 M40i.

Furthermore, it's a shame that the 40e will be left with no immediate replacement in terms of a high output four cylinder PHEV setup that exceeds the power of any non-hybrid four cylinder model BMW offers. When you look at Volvo's top of the line T8 I4 hybrid setup, it shows what can be achieved. Indeed, BMW has also just announced (but followers of this thread knew was coming for years now) the B48A20T1 with 300hp, which could have been used instead in the 45e, matching its output with two less cylinders. Presumably this was determined to be more costly and/or not as efficient. But it is nevertheless unfortunate from my perspective to see BMW apparently backing away from augmenting their four cylinder and six cylinder engines with electric motors to the effect of producing more power than those engines could on their own.

Like the Second generations before it. The MINI JCW GP will be a limited model available in many global markets.
This is not the finished car however visually. Again no rear seat. So if you want a practical MINI buy a Cooper S or JCW.

I was actually thinking that the 45e was going to be a higher tuned 4 cylinder but I'm happy that it is a 6 cylinder.

However I completely agree with there being a 4 cylinder and a 6 cylinder option, perhaps 35e or 40e and 45e or 50e for the two different engines would have been quite good.

The difference in fuel use between the 210kw version and the 265kw B58 must be minimum with the added hybrid system.

Equally the difference between the 135kw and the 190kw B48 or even the new 225kw in the X2 M35i must again be minimal. I also wonder if the 190kw B48 engine would have been faster overall and used less fuel than the 210kw B58 version in the new 45e. I've love to hear some further analysis around this.

Do you have any information on the battery capacity of the new X5 45e? This will determine the amount of the USA Federal tax credit and it could be large enough to garner the full $7500. BMW says the introduction of the 45e is delayed in the US to ensure full SULEV certification in California. Is this the same reason the upgraded battery PHEV 5-series is delayed to 2019? The previous model 40e had more or less the same battery size in both X5 and 5-series. Hope this will be the case for 45e.

Now that the G24 is cancelled and the F34/F36 EOP has been bumped to 06/21, any word of a B57-series 330d/430d in europe for those? AFAIK, all new cars need to be Euro 6d-temp certified by mid-2019 and the current N57 engine is not (and likely will not). The F34 got an off-LCI cycle motor update (B47) already in mid-2015, so maybe they will do it again? Or will they just retire the straight 6 diesels early?

There will be no new models or versions of F3x. If any of the existing ones become non-compliant for any reason, they'll just be canceled with no replacement.

More importantly, will the iX3 arrive at all? I understand the iX3 EV is only built in China, so unless something is resolved in trade talks, it most likely would be subject to a significant tariffs. My guess is that BMW won't import the iX3 as it would be far to expensive for the market.

Side note: Since the new trade agreement has been reached with Mexico, we'll eventually see all (most?) of the G20 3ers coming from Mexico. Perhaps only the M3 will come from Germany in a few years?

So it looks like the G20 missed out on 48V, at least for the models available so far (330i, and outside the US, 320i and 320d). BMW is starting to fall behind Mercedes and Audi, who launched or will launch multiple 48V models this year.

What is happening to the 3GT and 4GC? I had heard that the next generation models were canceled, but I just read in the OP that, while the G24 4GT is canceled, the G26 4GC is still coming, just later than expected as something new and more interesting than the current model.

Does anyone know more about this?

3GT variant is dead for next gen I believe.
