NEED antivirus software asap!

Could somebody please give me a link to a site where I can download a free, reputable antivirus program? Please, my computer just instantly shat a brick, and for some random reason I don't have any antivirus protection on it.

Yes. The internet is full of viruses, worms, malware, spyware, whatever you want to call it. Having a good firewall and ant-virus program running while connected is paramount.

be careful on what you dl from torrents... and after you dl it, make sure you always delete the job so you dont seed it...

wait...seeding can do that? wowwwww. that's probably it. i've got like 10 seeds running right now, i didn't know that could be bad...

i only seed because demonoid says it'll improve my dl rates.

I'm not too sure but its not safe to anyways, thats one way you can get caught though... and also if you have a bunch of files seeding, and if a lot of people are dl'ing from you, it might affect your speed.. Again, don't quote me, I don't know much about torrents and dling, I just do what I need to and get rid of it lol

They do - it's because so few people use them that it doesn't pay to build spyware and viruses for them. However, if everyone really believed that Macs were much safer, more people would use them, and then it would pay to develop malware that targets them.

Apparently it may be changing anyway, as Apple gains some market share, and Windows security gets better.

i would also suggest reading through the comments on the torrent. for example, i use piratebay...most torrents have a comment section below the basic info. read through it, if the torrent contains a virus, you're likely to see a bunch of people saying so. that's the easy way to be sure you're not getting virii.

If you're seeding 10 torrents full-bore at once, your connection is probably gonna be strained, and your internet will seem terribly slow. I try to seed only 3-5 at a time with Qwest Platinum DSL. If I near my upload max, the whole connection bogs down.

*before anyone asks, FIOS isn't available yet, and between the throttling and service dropouts, cable isn't an option.

F-Prot Anti Virus. I've been using this since 1994. Awesome product! I've communicated with them a few times when they were free and they still provided fast, very friendly service. You can still download a trial version of their software.
