Rub a bar of soap on squeaky door hinges to end the squeakiness.

It also works for silencing squeaky automobile doors sills and interior trim pieces for a while, where isolation tape is sometimes used by certain dealerships.
If dish soap can be used as a lubricant on a tire-mounting machine.....

I use RainX on the outside of windows and on glass railings. Helps a lot in keeping them clean.
Plug all holes in exterior walls with steel wool and caulk. That’s the only way to keep mice out that works. Not supposed to so be careful, but mothballs will drive away roosting bats (entryway at our old place), and all sorts of critters from attics. I suspend them in cloth bags to prevent the animals from trying to eat them. Ants hate salt, so you can disrupt their paths and re-route them using salt, then sweep it away. Great for kitchen areas where you don’t want pesticides to get near food or food prep areas. I had them entering through an electrical outlet box, removed the outlet cover and tossed some salt into the box. They quit coming in. A kitchen sponge can be great for texturing sparkle or paint when patching/repairing. Most everything can be DIY with a decent set of tools, YouTube, and patience. |

Don't paint an interior in four different shades of white.
I'm over glass shower enclosures, glass shower doors. Anywhere there is a water valve turn it fully on and off every couple of weeks. Don't buy plumbing supplies and fixtures at Home Depot. Learn the right way to prune trees and shrubs and start young. Sunlight destroys upholstery and furniture. |

Use steel braided hoses and a single throw cutoff valve on your washing machine. Make sure to turn the valve off after each use. You'll probably never thank me for it, but you'll hate yourself if you don't heed the advice and a hose bursts while you're away.
(I learned this lesson the hard way. Very hard.)

Best advice I can give anybody is don't let your roof get older than 14-16yrs old without getting insurance involved to see and get them to buy a new one.

Yeah that works too but, believe it or not, not everyone has a can of WD-40 on every floor of the house, one in each vehicle and six in the garage.

WD-40 is a water disperser (hence the "WD"), not a long-term lubricant.....

If it doesn't move and it should, WD-40. If it does move and it shouldn't, Duct Tape.

Tools Confidence Patience A majority of home repairs are pretty freaking easy. Same with cars. The tens of thousands I've saved over the 25+ years maintaining my home and cars has made me a killing in the stock market with that money that would have been paid to another party. Just last week I installed two new garage door openers. That would have cost me $500 in labor. Plus I love learning and accomplishing things. My rule is if I don't think there's a high potential for me to cause $500+ in damage if I mess up, then I'm giving it a shot myself. |

Does anyone have a solution for losing those little red straws that come with the can?

Don't try to keep them with the can. Keep them in a specific drawer in your toolbox and NEVER throw one away.
