I love roundabouts in theory. I hate dealing with roundabouts in practice because you inevitably run into people who don't know how to use them, then get pissed at everyone else for the near misses they create

The infrastructure itself is great, the people who use it are not. There are 5 double/triple lane roundabouts on my daily commute if I choose to go that way. I use my horn daily/weekly.
Just last night there was an accident involving a city bus on the busiest roundabout in the city. There probably would have been more damage if it was a 4 way... or... not happened at all. Roundabouts increase the frequency of minor accidents but greatly lessen the damage done. Last edited by freakystyly; 09-14-2022 at 11:38 AM.. |

Great question.
Have had one near my home for about 7 or 8 years and I think it's safer than a four way intersection with 2 stop signs or even a four way intersection with 4 stop signs. Even out in the rural areas roundabouts I think have reduced t-bone collisions at complex junctions where only one or two had stop signs and one or more had right of way with no signs. |

This happens more often with roundabouts, but can be applied to driving in general. One of the big reasons I got a dash cam. So many people out there who are oblivious to the fact that they're the hazard yet always want to blame others.

I like roundabouts. They’re very efficient for both traffic flow and space reasons. I even like the name ‘roundabout’. It sounds like a fun playground ride.
What y’all are saying is that you like roundabouts but you hate people. And you’re right. People are the worst. |

We have one in town with a sign leading up to it telling people what they can anticipate/do based on the lane they are in (double lane roundabout). This sign shows that those in the left/interior lane have the option to take the second and third exit or continue in the roundabout. Problem is, the right/exterior lane is given the same options.
Person in the outer lane stays in the roundabout to exit on the third exit, person in the interior lane decides they want to exit on the second exit. What now? ![]() I like them. I don't like the operators, and in some instances, the designers. |

Don't like them because people understand them even less than flashing red lights.

The obsession with 4 way stops here just fucking does my head in, so much stop/start driving. Roundabouts people, roundabouts, for the love of fucking god, roundabouts. Muppets.

Roundabouts are great, it's the people that don't get it that make roundabouts not-manageable. They have been adding more and more of them around where I live and most suburban folks here are too passive and just sit there and wait for all the cars to stop coming while it's a fricken busy highway so they don't stop coming. Gotta jet out there when there is a gap and go with the flow!

The same folks that don't know how to do a round-about aren't paying attention at multi-way stop signs... between fuel and brakes and tires,... stop signs SUCK. hahahaaa... they are an outdated way of dealing with small volume traffic (or even high volume... but....), and we are only stuck with them because we don't have the real estate in many locations to change.
If a person is driving along at a crossroads and no other cars are coming from any other direction, it's insane that the person has to stop. The round-about fixes that. I like them. |

My answer is conditional on people learning to properly use roundabouts.
I have little faith in people.... so I guess I'm leaning towards no.
