by setting new performance benchmarks, including the quickest-ever 0-60 mph time for a production Corvette.

The new ZR1 will reach 60 mph from a standstill in 2.3 seconds, and run the quarter mile in 9.6 seconds, both with the optional ZTK Performance Package, Chevy confirmed Thursday in a press release. Chevy said acceleration tests were performed with 93-octane fuel on a non-prepped dragstrip, with the Michelin Pilot Cup 2R tires that are part of the ZTK package.
Helping the ZR1 achieve these feats is the new LT7 twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8, which produces 1,064 hp at 7,000 rpm and 828 lb-ft of torque at 6,000 rpm. The 8-speed automatic transmission from other Corvette models remains mandatory, but it's been modified for this application with wider gear profiles, stronger shafts, and improved lubrication.

The extra power compared to the Z06's 670-hp LT6 V-8, from which the LT7 is derived, counterbalances a weight increase of about 200 pounds. That gives the ZR1 a dry weight of 3,670 pounds for the coupe and 3,758 pounds for the convertible.

The 2025 Chevy Corvette ZR1 is scheduled to reach dealerships next year.

To be fair it has 1000hp. And that's not 1000 electric HP where the car is 6000 pounds. It's 1000hp in like 3500lbs. It's nuts.

It's a shame it doesn't come with a manual. I can respect it's speed, but it's of no interest to me.

No manual, no care. It's too big anyway. Definitely fantastic tho, and respectable. I'm sure the sound is off the charts. It doesn't look bad, but I wish the C8 design wasn't so "copy Japan and Europe and add a Domestic flare", but it is what it is.

Finally a production gas car that can equal the fastest production electrics like the Plaid and Air Sapphire, even if it is not as practical. Looks great but attracts too much attention for me and would not be much good in the snow.

To be fair not all 1000 Hp EVs are 6000 lbs. Tesla Model S Plaid is around 4,766 lbs which is pretty compariable to non-electrified ICE rivals, for example 2023 Audi RS7 is over 4900 lbs.

I've never been a Corvette guy, but the C8 is the performance bargain of the century. Love that they went mid-engine on it too. Badass car in any trim.

Well, technically it doesn't and that's totally okay! Lucid Sapphires are running 8s. The ZR1 is a monster and is infinitely more enjoyable to drive than an EV.
I do love my hybrid, the huge wave of torque is awesome and the throttle response is great. EVs certainly have their place in the automotive world and enthusiasts should love them for most of the driving experience. But high horsepower ICE cars are just another level of fun. I really hope GM takes this thing to the ring to see what sort of time it can muster. Its fun to compare those times, even though it has absolutely zero impact on anything else in life. Entertainment FTMFW!

Yeah but it's a Tesla with crap build quality, crap materials, no interior, and all that. So of course it's light, it's a playschool car with a bunch of electric motors, lol.

What Super car doesn't attract attention?

Snow??? I wouldn't even drive my car which is all-wheel drive in snow.

Agreed on all points. I also commend GM for doing enough to it's appearance to seperate it from the Vette and Z06. It looks menacing and sexy to me.

Not sure about yearly year models, but I drove 2024 Model S recently and the interior and built quality are much improved, comparable to lower tier BMWs (like new X3). It also had double-pane windows, so I was very quiet inside.

I drive my F90 M5 in the snow and nearly bought a 991.2 Turbo test so round also have put snow wheels on for winter use. But the Corvette with RWD only is a good weather toy. Would definitely be fun, though, as long as it is warm enough and dry enough for traction.

***My neighbor has a newish (2023 I think) Plaid and it is a nice car. The interior is indeed far improved over the older models, but realistically it is NOT by any stretch of the imagination at even most lower BMW levels in my opinion. In fact, my gal pal drives a newish JCW Mini Cooper with the upgraded leather seats, and it has a nicer interior and quality/feel than my neighbors Plaid. He was in shock at just how "nice" a Mini Cooper was interior wise - it is very noticeable.

I'm not dissing on the Plaid, or Tesla in general - you can't throw a rock in my area without hitting a Tesla (don't throw stones at Tesla's...or any other car..), the car is a different price point, and people may buy them for reasons other than just performance or luxury. The Plaid is remarkably fast, and has some incredible tech in it, but in terms of feel/luxury IMO it just isn't at the same level as my Benz, or BMW, etc..

You probably haven’t experienced the new X3 interior which is a step down from previous generations: hard plastic every there, no physical buttons, Tesla style one screen etc. Unfortunately, BMW is going Tesla-path at least for lower models.

Interior quality starts at 3:30 (I don't think lowest trim new Model 3 has as much hard plastic as this X3, while being much cheaper):

It's fascinating to me how Tesla becomes part of nearly every discussion on this forum.

I'm not mad at it. It just speaks to their success as a brand how they live rent-free in many people's minds.

Regardless, I'm getting a ZR1, but in the real world a Plaid will still run away from it up to 160ish. You can magazine race and compare stats all you want, but numbers don't adequately convey how full traction and immediate power delivery impacts distance covered on asphalt.

It's hard not to let such a performance bargain live rent-free in people’s minds, used Plaids are selling around mid-40s.
But regardless, if the ZR1 sounds anything like the Z06, it should definitely be a keeper.
