That’s definitely what happened. I’ve read it drives nicely, but the cheapness is hard to excuse. Unfortunately, with inflation and now tariffs, I fear a downward trajectory in materials/design, etc.
That’s unfortunate, but not surprising. This cost cutting is quite evident in the new X3 and 5 series. Also, this camo X5 looks like an iX3 on steroids so we all know what the final product is going to look like.

Looking to much like a wagon.

Hopefully it’s not as squat as it looks in these shots.
They kind of always have though. I will never forget during the ownership of our two new E53s, many times individuals would state, “I like your wagon!” 🤣

Can't wait to see the X5M, but im sure it will be atleast 6k lbs with the giant battery. The weight will definitely be something I will have to think about if I were to leave from my X5MC to this platform.

Does anyone out there have a contact at the actual factory in SC that could "VERIFY" for us "potential buyers" as to if the rear hatch remains a 2 piece or if they did indeed go to a 1 piece????? I prefer the 1 piece and have always considered the 2 piece as truly very inconvenient due to the fact that the bottom portion will protrude out into you as you are trying to put in heavy items.

I think they will reveal it soon enough and we’ll all know.

I don’t like the 2 piece either but it seems we’re the odd ones as 99% of this forum loves it and considers it a deal breaker. 🤷🏼

SCA's user avatarSCA used to work at the Performance Center so it would be unusual if he didn't know people who work inside the plant.

First of all it is highly unlikely that very many, if any, employees at the factory know the details of the G65. If any do, my guess is that they enjoy having a job more than giving out information. Disclosing information about an unreleased vehicle can have them unemployed very quickly. ;)

Many know more than you would suspect, especially in procurement and assembly. Your second and third sentence is 100% accurate.

Center employee = dealer employee. BMW NA calls their dealer network ‘Centers’

Not a fan of the door handles. Smaller kids getting in and out will struggle. They’ll be getting their lovely hand and fingerprints all over the car to get in.

I hope the split tailgate doesn’t go. It was a sad day when the Lexus LX lost theirs. Such a great design, and those that are used to it really appreciate the utility of it.

Let me give you the other side of the argument on the "Split Gate". My wife gets the groceries in the household. She hates the split gate because when you are putting in very heavy cases of bottled water the lower part protrudes out into you and makes it very difficult to slide the heavy cases up to the back of the rear seats. I always said that "Particular Design" was created by a man who probably was a single guy. Its the WORST design I've ever seen. Or as my wife says its a "DEAL BREAKER".

FYI, BMW took the split tailgate design from the Range Rover while they owned Land Rover as they owned the brand prior to the first X5 (E53). BMW’s Hill-Decent was also taken from Range Rover.

Then your wife should be good as everything is pointing to the split tailgate being removed from the G65.

Besides the usual discussions on split gate, there is a very practical benefit I can add - something that you’d appreciate only if you encounter the scenario. Because of the split gate, you do not need as much space behind the car to open the tailgate. In my case, I would not be able to open the tailgate without scraping my garage door (when closed) because of the extra height/length of tail gate. With spilt, it opens just fine. Also, I feel more comfortable sliding heavy stuff in knowing that the bottom tailgate protects the bumper. Had an X3 before and when loading heavy items, I had to be extra careful so as to not touch the top part of bumper with the load.
