I considered this model until rumors started 3yrs ago the Z4 was going to get a manual. I would like to rent one of these someday If IF I see one on Turo or the like at my destination for instance.

Very nice! I bought a new Boxster in 2002. Owned it for 16 years and put 317K miles on the car. Wonderful car.
Many happy miles in your Boxster! |

Congrats and welcome to the club. I'm not a 718 owner but rather a 2011 Cayman 6MT Base owner and I'm NEVER getting rid of this car unless it becomes impossible to find parts. I've owned it for 2.5 years, drive the crap out of it, maintain and fix it, etc. It is just a joy to own and drive. These cars are just so much freaking fun.
Just be aware that even the best handling BMW doesn't stand a chance against what these mid engine Porsches are capable of and it will totally change your perspective on what is considered an excellent handling car. Everyone talks about how amazing an F87 M2 handles (i own one too,) and i agree, it's astounding. But compared to my Cayman that is still on the Base 12 y/o suspension, it's not even close. I love both cars equally, but in very different ways. |

And really all cars since the Boxster. With the exception of my (too brief) time with my 2008 Cayman S and my 8 years (150K miles) with my 2003 996 Turbo. Obviously the Cayman S was a handler equal to the Boxster with the Turbo a close second. My 2023 M2 wasn't too shabby in the handling department and the same can be said for my 2024 M8. To be sure beyond the edge in handling at least the Turbo and the same can be said for my 2 230i's and my M2 and my M8 match up well even surpass the Boxster in other areas. For sure I'd not trade my M8 for a Boxster/Cayman for love or money. |

Beautiful spec, great choice. I’ve had 3 Boxsters and 4 Carreras and the Boxsters are so much more engaging and fun to drive for me than the 911’s.
I love the handling of the mid engine Porsches. A Boxster/Cayman feels like a true sports car compared to my current Carrera S (which feels more like a grand touring car to me). I’ll be trading back to a Boxster soon too. Good luck, great choice! |

Welcome to the club! I went with the roofed version, since I do autocross and track it. I've had it 3 years now. The sound of the 4-liter engine above 5K makes it almost worth the price of admission. I have the stock sport exhaust but replaced the stock over-axle pipes with Akrapovic ones. An exhaust valve controller is highly recommended, so you can be a mature adult (valves closed) or an irresponsible adult and look for excuses to hit redline as often as possible.

I personally think CPO is a total farce. My 2011 Cayman with 65k miles, which I bought from Porsche Colorado Springs in October 2022, was CPO'd. I incorrectly assumed that CPO'd meant that the certifying dealer would have gone through the car with a fine tooth comb and that there would be no need to have an independent shop look at it. I could not have been more wrong and my story is consistent with what others have experienced in the last 4 or so years with CPO'd cars. I did not expect a 12 y/o car to be perfect and free from all defects and I expected I'd need to put about $2000-3000 into the car within the first year. I was cool with that because this Cayman was of one hell of a spec including a super rare LSD. After getting my Cayman home and looking it over, I realized was full of issues and since I had not been able to test drive 987.2 6MT, because they are so rare, I did not notice all of the issues on my 10 mile test drive but did start to suspect some issues on my 600 mile driver home to KC. Regarding the clutch, the salesmen said that Porsche clutch pedals are really heavy so I believed him. Whoops.
Things missed by CPO: 1) Torn engine mount 2) Sagging transmission mounts 3) Cracked AOS vacuum line 4) Worn out clutch and failing dual mass flywheel. Upon removal of the clutch/flywheel, the independent shop (which is run be former Porsche techs) said the clutch and flywheel should have NEVER passed CPO. 5) Completely perished front suspension bump stops. 6) Completely perished rear hatch rubber stops/foots. 7) Seriously stretched and worn cable shifter rods and worn shifter bushings. 8) An engine bay that had not ever been cleaned. It was brown with so much grime. It took me 4 hours to clean it and inspect it. I also pulled out two softball size debris piles from mice living under the intake manifold. When I realized all of the problems, I took the car to my local Porsche dealer and they gave me an estimate of around $14K to fix everything. NONE of it would be covered by CPO because it was considered wear and tear. I confronted Porsche Colorado Springs and not until I threatened to approach Porsche US did they offer me a settlement of $3500. I had a new clutch and flywheel installed for $2800 and did the remaining work myself for around $3000 in parts. The good news is once I fixed all the issues, the car has been great and looks basically new now. Never got to use the 2 year CPO warranty.

I blame COVID. I bought during the crazy car sales time and all dealers got real arrogant and lazy about the quality of used cars they were selling. I think Porsche Colorado Springs got real nervous about me ratting them out to Porsche US. All I had to say was I'm giving you guys a bunch of 1s on your review and would be calling Porsche US. They quickly changed their tune and offered a settlement.

And to think dealers mark up CPO, SMH. Glad you got the car sorted and kept it. You have more patience then I do, once a car becomes a headache I look to move on lol. |
