Thanks Alan. I now receive more complements than when it was new. Compared to the new versions, it's got smoother lines and people notice that and wonder what year it is.

A sweet lady told me recently that I've aged well, so maybe...I hope she's right.

Pelicans Soar With Clouds by David Stephens, on Flickr

The pelicans look so sharp against the sky that you'd think that I sharpened the image quite a bit. Actually, that's caused by their close proximity to me, versus the distant clouds. The clouds are not complete bokeh, because I was shooting at f/11.

I was there on Saturday. It's only a 15 minute drive from my house. Air quality sucked all weekend unfortunately. They used to load Dynamite from that pier.

I remembered you lived in Richmond, so I knew it was close! We were also there on Saturday and the air quality was so bad that the other side of San Pablo Bay was never clearly defined. Will definitely go back to Pinole Point when the rains return.

I love old piers, they have a real (loading Dynamite!) and imagined history. Old sentinels overlooking the march of history and mankind on our bays and waterways.

If you are going to go back, make a reservation for the Port Chicago memorial and see that pier. I haven't gone but someday..
If that isn't history, I don't know what is.

Thanks for the tip! I didn't know anything about Port Chicago and had to research it. Now I'm going - - - - after the rains start again. While I'm at it, looks like I can also visit SP ferry terminal remains to make a day of it.

If you’re gonna be up this way and want to know anything, feel free to PM me. The old Santa Fe ferry dock in Point Richmond is a cool photo spot, and if you like train stuff, there is a phenomenal model railroad museum right near the same spot as Miller Knox park, where the ferry dock is, that is really cool. I used to live right by there.
