Does your also propagate to the steering wheel? Like a sharper “clank” when going over uneven road or bumps. It would help to know the issue that’s been driving me mad is not an isolated case. I’m new to this forum, and my first bmw. So apologies in advance for any mistakes. Mine is a 2020 330E

I’ve noticed a kinda creaking /flexing noise when steering the wheel but only when the car is stationary and I’m holding the brake down while steering.
I could never reliably recreate it. It would just pop and clunk on hot days when going over slightly uneven roads or sometimes what seemed like flat roads. After the SIB fix was applied (tie rods replaced) I have not noticed the clunk anymore. I do get creaking when cutting the wheel to the extremes while standing still or moving slowly, like parking in tight spaces.

Yes that’s exactly what mine did. When it would clunk I would feel it in the wheel and even slightly in my brake pedal.

How long did you experience it for? I will get it checked out asap but wondering if I’m in any imminent danger by waiting 1-2 weeks. I don’t feel mine in the break pedal so maybe it hasn’t reached that stage yet? My car was manufactured January 2020 so when I check the VIN, no recall shows up.

To my knowledge there’s no danger, nor is there a formal recall. It’s just a service bulletin. I had the issue for over 3 years.

Not sure why these cars come with a warranty, I have had no luck getting my f80 steering issues fixed and now this on my g82. I'm experiencing the same problems as the rest of you(knocking in the steering wheel over slightly unever roads, sometimes flat road causing knocking, etc) since this is a relatively cheap fix to do myself, I'm considering upgrading the tierod ends. Has anyone used the spl tie rod ends and did it fix the issue? Thanks!

My steering wheels creaks on full lock while stationary as well as the clunking noise I feel through it. I checked the tie rod ends at multiple garages but they didn’t find any play so now I’m confused. Is it just the tie rod ends that have to be changed or the entire assembly?

23 M340i rwd here.

I've experienced the creaking at full lock for a while now but I felt the hops for the first time today while backing out my driveway.

I'll probably take it to the dealer after I get new tires.

Does the dealer do an alignment if they replace your tie rods?

The hops at full lock while reversing are caused by the suspension geometry, nothing faulty. It's called the ackermann effect. It's happening now in the cold because the tires are stiffer.

It was indeed cold and rainy when it happened.

I learned something new today.

Great point here. I agree it's a strong statement by BMW to continue to "uphold" the highest level of quality after a sale.

Many companies make the sale and it's a nightmare after.

Cadillac for example I own a 2024 Escalade Platinum Sport purchased new. That has been the worst service experience plus tons of expenses compared to all my 5 BMW's I've owned which have been oil, gas, tires, brakes.

USA Brands by far the worst with service after the sale.

I attempted to get my Dads Honda truck into service one time I could not even make an appointment let alone get a person on the phone from service.

BMW has gone above and beyond for me in the past. Same for my Dad he's owned several 550's and X5M's

The first step in the process is replacing the tie rods, which are not available yet. So, dealer and I will be staying in touch every two weeks or so to check on availability of parts.

My dealer/service department is going to get sick of me pushing to get this fixed. From what I've gathered from BMW Genius folks at BMW North America is that the tie rod assemblies available in regional distribution centers are the same as what's currently on the problem cars, so replacing them with the same assembly will not fix the problem. In my uneducated opinion, the SIB shouldn't even mention that as a step because it's a road block to addressing the problem. I think the only way this gets escalated to BMW is to keep pushing. I may have kicked a hornets nest - a nice lady at BMW Genius suggested I file a report with the NHTSA so as to elevate the SIB to a recall.

I don't think my single report with NHTSA will elevate this problem to a RECALL, but I think if more of us with the issue would do so, it may help push BMW enough to advance the problem.
