I'll see if I can find some pictures as I know I have at least one lying around somewhere. I knew it was a great car back then but did not appreciate at the time just how legendary it would become (I remember being way more interested in the F50). No way I'll ever have an opportunity to sit in one again.
How was the seating position? I agree with your sentiment too, anyone that was around when that car was released knew it was badass, but I don't think most of us knew just how special it was at the time.

The roar of that engine + rowing your own gears + hydraulic steering = fantastic day

Especially the latter. REALLY enlightening how two cars that are remarkably similar by the same man are still remarkably different. Despite similar size, NA V12's, manual boxes, and central seating position, the T50 is an altogether different beast.

Regardless, good to see Chris have a go. He certainly deserves it. But the above videos give a much better sense of what the F1 is really about, IMO.
I agree that this is not one of his better videos. In fact, I think he has long run out of original things to say, as do many of these automotive YouTubers. Harry’s Garage, Catchpole, a few others at least try to say something deeper and more original. If I hear him say “what a thing!” one more time…well, I won’t be surprised.

Agree, reviewers need to stop just going woooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwww or laughing or exclaiming it's amazing. I know that already, give me a sense of the experience and nuance.

I would also say it’s not one of his best videos but he also doesn’t get drive the car around any real corners. It’s mainly straights and slight curves at high speed.

I give him props for even having the stones to drive someone else's $25+ million dollar car at all.

How much better can a video be with I think very genuine comments from Chris.
It should be the benchmark for all, just have to be enthusiast & real.
Very well done

Absolute polar opposite in every way of the i5 m60 I'll soon be driving.

I want one.

I remember being amazed when these came out and still the ultimate lottery win car.

Being 100% honest, I'd be making up how it felt because I don't remember. I don't remember the exact year, but it was around 97-98 I think. The only thing I knew about McLaren at the time was because of F1 and of course the McLaren F1. If I have any memory at all, it was just the nice lady who worked there asking me to take my shoes off before I sat in the car. I have a weird thing about wearing shoes, literally the only time I don't wear them is when I'm in the shower or in bed. I just vaguely remember nearly turning her offer down because I didn't want to take my shoes off. I've also never been much of a tire kicker, I don't like wasting peoples' time on a car unless I'm actually going to buy it.

So TLDR, but I really don't remember much about it. I think at the time it was just like any other car to me, albeit certainly a nice one.

I remember being in my early 20s in the 90s and losing my mind over this car. It’s just so incredibly special.

A post about a McLaren F1 in the G8X section is actually hilarious.

I realize we don't have a section for it but the G8X is literally the antithesis of an F1 lmao.

Wait until you learn that there have been posts about pickup-trucks here, too. Crazy!
