$50k had a decent spec to it (premium package, etc). The NX starts at $42k.

Here's the starting pricing:

Lexus UX: $38k
BMW X1: $41k
Lexus NX: $42k
BMW x3: $50k
Lexus RX: $50k

I don't think Lexus cares to keep direct competition models with the Germans...just look at their pricing and engine choices and you can clearly see they have a different mission.
RX comes up all the time as an X5 competitor. I suspect there's a small overlap in people who are really torn between the two because they're like, diametrically opposed in goal, but they're definitely class competitive. The X5 is of course WAY more sporty and capable in terms of towing and off-road, but the RX is focused a lot more on comfort and reliability/ease of ownership.

Basically what I said.

Yeah.

All things considered, I'd argue that most X5 40i buyers would be happier with the RX350, but the badge ego keeps them in a BMW.

I'm not sure. I'm a good example of this demographic as I came from an RX350 and got into an X5 40i (prior to my current X7). The X5 blew it away in every category (except perhaps perceived long term reliability). Even comfort was much better in the X5. The suspension was much more compliant and sophisticated (plus I had the air suspension optioned on my X5), seat comfort was similar with the Merino leather in the X5. And the B58 absolutely demolishes the 3.5L V6 in the RX in both performance and general smoothness of power delivery. It was also a quieter ride than the RX. And then obviously the tech in the X5 was generations ahead.

It's hard for me to imagine that anyone would prefer the RX over the X5 unless it was a question of price (the X5 was quite a bit more expensive than the RX) or perceived reliability. When we were cross shopping the X5, we compared it to the typical rivals... RX350, GLE, Q8, MDX, etc - we went in fully intending to just buy the newer version of the RX, but it quickly became apparent that it lagged behind in so many areas.

I know you said you prefer new, but I went with a used X3 for my Mom and it worked out really well. At least around here there are plenty of them and a few are in great shape.

I’m afraid you’re a day late and a dollar short. The deal is already done. Why do people post without actually reading the thread?? This thread is five pages long at this point and the original post was made almost three weeks ago. Do people actually think nothing has happened since it was posted?
