In some cases it was bad fuel, in other cases, it was something internal to the motor and required a motor replacement. I'm assuming the bad fuel thing is the result of a motor that revs to over 8000rpm and is tuned extensively to squeeze max power out of it with a really high compression and such.

I absolutely love my 2011 Cayman Base 6MT that revs to its 7600rpm fuel cut without a fight, but damn, the repair costs if one must need to use Porsche are just bonkers. I have no desire at all to own a GT or even S model series Porsche and definitely not a turbo one of any vintage.

100%. I’m shocked at the fact a 2 month old car requires $7000 in maintanence and feel the dealer - being a new dealer with noob experience across the board - is mishandling just about everything.

This has completely jaded me about the brand, and I won’t be back.

Ultimately I just need a dependable fun car for the weekends - so I got out of it.

After buying a $283k sticker TTS in 2023 that never shifted right, I feel your pain. I did pretty much everything I could, even went as far as doing a TCU tune, relearning it etc etc etc. And it never shifted right. They didn't blame it on me, but I couldn't believe that they wanted me to basically suck their dick to do anything to service the car, and of course bill me for it. I took it to aftermarket shops too, but of course because I had the newest thing their PIWIS didn't support it, and my shop doesn't have that tool.

I'm just good. Even Lamborghini (Also VAG) doesn't treat you like this much of shit. Maybe it's the dealers in the Phoenix/Scottsdale, but I'm just good. I'd of fought on the 4.0 though, I'd say cool, pull the ECU logs and show me it pulling timing. If they refused, I'd lawyer up, but even then it's still a waste of time and money.

Honestly, the 4.0 is cool but it’s not worth lawyering up for. Believe me, I considered it. But I have more important things to do with my time. It’s a throwback car to an older time, but as far as sports cars go - considering all high end brands - it’s mid.

I see ATL as your location. Seems interesting that there would be a poor dealer experience for the North American HQ. That's not to say other areas get a pass, but I'd assume the top of the line for the area. You mentioned new dealer, so I'm assuming Porsche Atlanta Northeast. As I understand it, they are really only focused on the Cayennes and Macans there. I drive past it every time I go to the office, and aside from the occasional Taycan charging, that's all I ever see.

They have a lot of used GT cars pass through there, and seem to have very limited new inventory

Cool car, but its odd to me that it still has the 991 interior design after all these years.

Final bill was $5k for a brand new engine misfiring at 4k miles. I’m paying half. What a wild ride!

I won’t be back to P-car world and not just for the unexpected expense. Makes me appreciate BMW more - that’s for sure. To me it was more principled about dealers screwing with you, cars with poor quality (I had additonal initial quality issues), and the overall experience not living up to the hype.

I feel these days Porsche is more about brand image than dedication to engineering. Just look at this slide from their YE24 presentation. More swagger than substance for the first time in their history?

PCNA, and moreso this particular dealer, is a disappointment but I think the culture runs deep with arrogance.

That said, I have a lot of respect for 991 and prior 911 gens and always will.

They charged you 20 hours of labor to detect bad gas and send you on your way? Did they tear down the entire engine? Was the car tuned? Something does not add up here.

I agree with your conclusion

No tune, I just bought the car new two and a half months ago

They replaced spark plugs, coils twice, injectors, and were planning on scoping cylinders. I called their milking the cow bluff and they blamed me for bad fuel.

They tested the fuel and it was fine. Then they did all this crap and tested it again at the bottom of the tank and said it was bad fuel.

I asked for the report and proof but they didn’t provide it. Probably because I traded it immediately and my bmw dealer negotiated it down from $8k.

The dealer is new and out of their mind. Been a terrible experience.

Sounds absurd if they won’t provide proof and the car is under warranty. I’d for sure be talking to PCNA if I were you but I get it if you’re just over it

I tried. They said dealers are independent and there’s nothing they can do.

The only silver lining is the refunds from extended 3rd party warranties more than cover the $2500, BMW covered the other half - and they put pressure to reduce from $7700.

I’m over it. Moved on and put 1200 miles on my m4 already.

But now it is over so enjoy the new M4 it is a great car

sorry to hear about this involving a new car that should have brought you joy and not headaches

a little confused by this last post

You contacted PNA to dispute the bad gas claim and they said they could do nothing?

if the issue did not relate to bad gas then it should have been covered under warranty and I thought it was the manufacturer who ultimately decided warranty coverage, not a dealer?

Why does everyone keep saying that? Dealer blamed bad gas and charged me for it, told me to go recoup the money from the gas station. Why is that so hard to understand? What pieces of the story are missing?

PCNA said dealers are independent and there’s nothing they can do.

Should have been under warranty, but they denied it based on their testing of the fuel at the bottom of the tank. They said there were two approaches. Warranty replacing all the components or fuel flush and it’s my $. They didn’t tell me that until they did the former. They planned on doing more, taking the engine out, scoping the cylinders etc. I traded the car and let bmw force the issue. I figured I’d be without a car for weeks based on how slowly everything was being done.

Because you keep saying they tested the gas and it was fine, that's what is confusing us. If the gas was fine and they blame bad gas you have a clear cut case through government channels and wouldn't even need a lawyer. If the gas tested bad then yeah not their issue.

I don't think you're bullshitting us but it makes no sense.

Ah. They tested the gas at the top and it was fine. Then they did all this work. Then they tested it at the bottom of the drained tank and claimed it was tainted. It was total BS!
