I had that car. The seats were the most basic pieces of Japanese manufacturing. But I agree they were not that uncomfortable but I wouldn't rate them as amazing. I don't find the seats in the X3/M comfortable, I thought the were hard as cardboard!

i think it's clear Stellantis had a complete moron for a CEO and they should have canned him years ago. It was like he had never met an American and thought he could just force us to buy the Euro centric models he thought would be best for the bottom line. And he had some weird beef with V8s. Probably lost his girl to a guy with a V8 years ago.

Visited a few dealers today just for a look.
Cadillac has a full range of EVs. If I thought the wife unit could park an Escalade this discussion would be over. Alas too much vehicle for her. And the Vistiq is a bit larger than we need but a very nice car and competitively priced. Interior is also very nice. Hyundai Ionic 9 hits all the buttons. Right size. Features. Great warranty. Tow issues for me. One is it isn't really priced any lower than say the Caddy or BMW. And it is ugly. I know beauty is in the eye and all that but it's as plain as a Tesla which I also don't like. Acura only has a smaller unit no go. BMW was an interesting visit. I like how they look and they have all the right features. BTW they all come with an air suspension to handle the extra weight per the sales rep. What is interesting is the interior. Not a huge fan of the layout but the materials for the seats - the micro fiber is better than the leather IMO. Looks and comfort. But when I add it all up NONE of them had an interior as nice as my 2021 X5 with the leather upgrade package, I'm thinking I might wait a bit. Sales rep said in a few years BMW will come out with an all electric X5 and end the iX. Maybe the interiors will also improve. Since we drive 8000 miles a year it isn't as if we'll save a ton on gas to make it a good financial decision, |

Have you seen the leaks of the newer trucks? The Neu Klass interiors look like cheap crap.
EVa get cheap interior 9/10 times. They push these cheap interior as "modern". The automakers all saw Tesla throwin a cheap interior and call.it modern and minimalist and make huge margin and they wanted in .so now we can't have nice things. Did you look at Genesis gv60 or GV70 or GV80? Those might tickle your pickle so to speak. |

Took the missus with yesterday and looked at a few with her.
Mercedes EQE SUV is by far the nicest interior. But the one I saw was an AMG model for $121,000. Mmmm no. In the realistic range of pricing for a car (i.e. transportation not signalling some kind of statement) the winners were Cadillac and Hyundai. For her. Shocked she liked the Hyundai. The Lyriq is a nicely sized car with a quality interior and reasonable price in todays EV range. A nicely configured Lyric which is about the same size as an X5 can be had for $65K. And my impression is deals can be had. For ME the Cadillac was the winner when price package is factored. Shocking to me the Ionic 9 Calligraphy model is about $78K. Salesguy mentioned something about a $12.5K credit or whatever. It seems the credits etc, are all over the map with EVs. Regarding the iX wife unit (who is a BMW bigot) was very disappointed. As am I. It is a serious no go based on the interior. My 2021 X5 with upgraded interior is far superior to the iX. Thinking this was all an exercise for fun as nothing I've seen has me tempted to buy a new car. Thinking the 2021 with 32K miles might have a few years left. ![]() |

heh they have German designers you know.
I sold my M340i for a Kia EV6 and I have just passed on the iX and bought a Kia EV9. it's just works better and less than half the price. Maybe see if Genesis brought out the Ioniq 9 equivalent? |

Yeah I kinda like the Hyundai too. So far Genesis only has the GV70 or G80 sedan in electric. A GV80 in electric could be interesting.
Honestly as far as function and comfort the EV9 seems perfect. Just no sizzle to me. I really like the interiors of the Mercedes. But.... the cost of the ones I like are around 95K and up and despite being an SUV they ride fairly low. At this point I am looking at my X5 with appreciation and thinking wait a few more years. |

Heck I like bigger is better. But this is a shared car with the wife unit and anything much larger than our X5 will scare her. Kinda missing if they skip the GV80 EV.

I'm sure there will be something that size eventually... Though frankly it would make more sense for a brand like Genesis to develop platforms that can be ev, ice, or PHEV like BMW has. So maybe the next gen GV80.

Personally if I can help it I'd never buy an EV that shares a platform with ICE. Too many compromises need to be made. Have you looked at a Lucid Gravity if you're in that 3-row, larger SUV space? The Grand Touring/launch model may be on the pricey end but the regular Touring whenever it comes out may be more palatable, of course provided you have time to wait.

And that isn't a knock on Lucid. Same with Rivian. Just not certain who is going to shake out. Honestly think I'm just keeping the X5 for now. Gave up on BMW connected services and went Apple Carplay instead so my frustration level is over. But if I was going to buy sitting here right now the contenders would be: Cadillac. Yeah weird I know. But I don't need sporty I want comfort and the Lyric is the right size and has an upscale interior. Price very fair. Hyundai - the Ionic 9 fits all the wants. Just kind of boring to look at. Price is awesome. Mercedes EQE is very nice in the upper units. Only issue is price is premium and I'm not sure it's really better than the Caddy or Hyundai. And if I were buying today I would lease for 3 years. Which of course means I could lease a Lucid since I don't have that much skin in the game which is how we go in circles car buying which is why I am keeping the X5. LOL |

Long story short - you will have to look past BMW and Tesla if you appreciate quality interiors. Quote:
I would go out and test drive one, if I was interested in larger EVs. Lucid is owned by Saudi royal family. It will be gone no earlier than the Saudi monarchy. a

I get the sentiment regarding Lucid and Rivian and I have some apprehension as well, but as stated above Lucid does have pretty solid backing. It's moreso if you're able to get it serviced easily if needed.
Regarding the interior, and I suppose I'm biased, but I don't find the iX to have a bad interior at all. Sure the big screen trend isn't the most imaginative, but I kinda like having a more spacious interior without a ton going on. I used to be a vehement touchscreen hater in cars but I've honestly gotten used to that too. It's probably sacrilege on this forum to suggest it, but I sort of appreciate the lack of buttons to an extent, even though I still have the iDrive wheel. When I had an X3 loaner the amount of buttons on the dashboard felt cluttered more than useful - I'd like some semblance of a middle ground. I also don't care for leather at all, particularly living in AZ. I don't really pay attention to what the seats are made of from an environmental perspective as long as they're comfortable and feel good. In my opinion a lot of the interior designs in cars are becoming very similar. I used to be partial to Audi interiors but they're basically the same deal now. The new iX3 panoramic thing gets panned on here but people who have seen it in person seem to like it - if anything at least it's kinda new. But I digress, there's no guarantee my next car will be a BMW because from HMG to Cadillac and Lucid, there are tons of competitive cars in the BEV space now. I appreciate your perspective on those you tested.

picking up the EV9 GT-Line in 7 days. during test drive it felt like a private jet if the EV6 was business class. i'd like to sell the EV6 but it's worth nothing over here (I think there is a recession or something) so I might as well keep it heh.
