All the hate here.

Where did CF originate from? It’s all synthetic man made stuff. Pretty sure when it was introduced like this new natural fiber composite, it would have gotten a lot of hate. Then it became cooler.

CF pattern isn’t pretty to begin with, it saved weight and was durable, used all across automotive racing, some in aviation and aerospace. If they can develop an alternative it’s not the end of the world.

As with material science things wil Improve in “texture”/pattern.

It’s going to be painful, very painful to transition but it will be better. Buy your ///M car now. Everything is crashing honestly, before we get used to the “greener” materials.

Actually it makes you the bully for suggesting they are idiots because they have a different view. Now go plug in your conveyance…in Boston…

Is that stuff not holding up well? I always liked the funky checkerboard pattern, but I did wonder about the strength. A tighter weave always seemed to make more sense to me, strength-wise, but then that CS roof came along and they claimed it was more rigid than the traditional weave.
Is it the carbon itself that's not holding up, or is it sealed poorly and letting some liquid in or something? I've heard about issues with the seals on carbon roofs, but this is the first time I've seen one described as, "disintegrating", lol.

Sorry mate. If this stuff was better than carbon fibre don’t you think that F1 would be using it ?? Last time I looked they were not using it. If there was a good reason to they would. This has nothing to do with real innovation.

I'm not the EU, but it wouldn't matter, the way things are going I can't imagine there being a new vehicle I would want in 2029.

I guess I'm showing my age, but this new crop of cars is just getting worse and worse, despite the better and better numbers.

The expected reaction from the masses. We humans....most of us just don't like change.

"Change is hard because people overestimate the value of what they have and underestimate the value of what they may gain by giving that up."

Can you please stop trolling things you have no idea about? This isn’t an “idea.” Mocking and insulting something you’ve never seen and know nothing about isn’t critique—it’s ignorance and bullying. There’s no "idea"here, just a reflection of your own idiocy and whatever problems you have. Now go top off your gas tank in whatever gas-guzzler you’re driving—wherever that may be.

Mentioned earlier in the thread, but no one posted any pictures.

From the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport, which used the material for wing and doors (back in 2019).

Wing looks fine. The door looks terrible.

Given the postive drastic improvements of Sensatec/Sensafin/alternatives to leather over the past few years, this is exciting. This is Gen1 and i'm sure it will continue to improve over time.

That's a yikes from me. WTF is going on, lol.

The people defending it are inhaling massive amounts of copium. This reminds me of the abomination that was that "forged" look people used for awhile that was ricey as hell, glad that trend seems to have gone by the wayside.

Forged carbon at least made sense. Take scraps of carbon fabric and don't care about weave pattern and let it do its thing. Forged carbon should have just been a way to make carbon fiber cheaper, then paint over the result.
