Interesting but expected design language! I’ll probably have one of these to replace my current Cayenne. My wife 45e has been just awesome for what it is. Maybe in a darker color, it will probably look less over styled. I think the design is different enough from g05 and more modern. Split tailgate is alive, looks like a little button on the lower corner of the right tail light. Hopefully, a little more rear legroom. If the base engine with 400hp/400tq, it’s better than most comparables in the segment. Interior is probably similar to ix3, not the best, but every manufacturer is going all touchscreen. I use Airplay for the most part. Just changing climate control during driving, should be okay. Can’t wait to see this and the new X7 reveal.

Influence wroteComing to the X5 from an Audi SQ5 which had a non split tailgate - the only negative that I can see is that it pushes you further away from the part of the trunk area closest to the rear seats. For loading and unloading some things that could be a downside. My 2016 X5 has the split tailgate, my 2020 X3M doesn’t.
Personally, I love the split tailgate and can’t find a single thing negative to say about it from an end user perspective.
Other than that I agree with your list of pros.

I'm probably the only minority here who actually likes the new gen.
My IX lease is coming up in August and hopefully I can order the '27 by then. X5 leases have always been crap though.
Or get a used CPO RangeRover Sports .....
But gonna wait for the actual reveal which I think is happening sometime next month.

Seriously though, why do you want to give up the EV and go back to ICE? Just not enjoying the experience or just looking for something different?

TurtleBoy wroteWe got the IX post covid as gas prices in CA had reached $7.50/gallon. Both me/wife are healthcare workers and worked in clinic so lots of money spent at the gas station filling up (and frequent maintenance on our former RRS). And back then, BMW was entering the EV market so we got a really good lease with tons of lease incentives ($750/month).You are coming from an iX though so that could be the influence.

We got the IX, 240v home charger and enjoyed NOT seeing gas stations but 2 years ago, both our jobs moved to full remote. I still goto clinics but barely. We only have 20k miles on the IX after the 1st year.
Love the speed but it sits too low. Interior is more spacey than X5. But EV doesnt have any soul...just a motor..u hear the electric hmmm during driving and thats it.
We get good range on the IX (400 miles was the best in summer on a full charge) but in winter, range is crap but this plagues every EV..not just bmw. Cold temps, wind drag, full passengers are range killa.
Then the super annoying thing is u cant use Tesla superchargers. We've been using Electrifying America chargers but these are public and sometimes, only 2 out 4 stations are working and usually occupied by Audi/Mercedes owners. We took a road trip last year to LA, got low on range, pulled up to a EV stop and it was all occupied (and the app told otherwise). We had to wait 40 mins before one spot opened up and that was the only 30 am outlet. I wish BMW could use the Tesla Superchargers as Tesla maintains their infrastructure extremely well.
So here I am....The IX value has depreciated like f#$% ..lol. Glad its a lease and we simply return and walk out without taking a financial hit.
I'm waiting for the full X5 reveal next month but if it's not my cuppa tea, I'll go back to a CPO rangeroversports (which was our former vehicle before the IX).

Having had so many X5s of all generations, currently in 50e and X7.
Well done BMW for just it shaking it up a bit.
Personally not massive fan of the front, but rear looking great with the quads!
But if not split rear tailgate, I will have to really think, that tailgate option is just great, other wise rear bumper takes all the scratches.
i drive controller is a worry as I am not really liking the the whole touch screen thing!
Time will tell, but at least BMW is giving it a good go!
But that doesn’t mean I personally will buy another, but if I don’t, plenty will!
Well done BMW, the evolution/ revolution continues!!

I guess I’m crazy, but I tend to look forward to the new iterations. Let’s face it, most mid-range cars offer the same tech now, so what can BMW do to differentiate? Obviously ALWAYS be a drivers car first, but experimenting with design language IMO moves the conversation forward and creates territory the company can own. I don’t love everything they do, but I love the new ideas. Panoramic Vision sounds brilliant - I can’t wait to see that in action. The steering wheel and screen shape - I don’t have an issue. Looks so much better than a Tesla. I could never drive a yoke, but my 760xi steering wheel isn’t totally round either.

One question about the X5 Neue Klasse - do we have interior dimensions? I ask bc Ive had two current gen X5s (M60 and M50e) and folks the X5 has never been very big on the inside. It just doesn’t hold a lot. My sister has a CR-V with a ton more interior space. Would be great if BMW addressed this.

Even if it is a fake, it lines up perfectly to the leaked pics.

carboy40 wroteMight be a screen rather than a sign?I believe it might be due to artifacting from the AI upscaling, in the enhanced pictures there’s an added door handle on the passenger door which we know will not be there, and some messed up text on the plate. The different text for the screen in the background is hard to explain though, maybe there are 2 versions of the picture.

Looked at the Rivian R2 website today. It’s going to have a rear window that can be lowered by pressing a button. Nice alternative to the split tailgate (it’s an alternative I would be willing to live with).
They also have the anti-dazzle lights. Assuming they actually ship in April, what are the chances that the new X5 has them in the US?
Their driving assist looks a lot like DAPP in the X5. Supposedly, it works on any road with clear line markings, not just highways.
Whether the pics are AI or not, I reserve judgement until I see one myself irl. Recent BMW’s just don’t seem to photograph well. At least to my eyes.
