NJ Speed Freak wroteYour point is indeed correct. There have been a few occasions where having the lower tailgate down has made it harder to push things up against the back seats. In those cases, I’ll keep the lower tailgate up to make things easier. Granted, I’m 6’2” with a 37” sleeve length (aka long arms), so I rarely run into this problem. I would imagine people who are shorter/have less reach than me could see this scenario more often.Coming to the X5 from an Audi SQ5 which had a non split tailgate - the only negative that I can see is that it pushes you further away from the part of the trunk area closest to the rear seats. For loading and unloading some things that could be a downside.
Other than that I agree with your list of pros.

Rxpert wroteMoney grows on trees for you, can please your wife with an RR or Porsche.We’re fortunate that the price difference is negligible to us. Our past five daily drivers have all been Bimmers because we prefer the under the radar yet sporty combo. My wife said she’d feel too “flashy” rolling into work with a Cayenne or RR, whereas her black M50i is perfect.
However when she saw these new pics her reaction was “yuck, that’s disgusting and I’d be embarrassed to drive to work in that! I’d rather deal with the RR and “Porsche” comments than drive a terrible looking car.”
Really curious what BMW is thinking. New design language doesn’t appeal to a car enthusiast (me) yet also doesn’t appeal to my wife who doesn’t really care & just wants something that looks “sporty and not ugly”.

Either the younger designers have zero skill, the engineers are running the show and maximizing cost cutting, or they are actually using AI to help these designs at this point.
