I think it is derogatory in the UK but nothing like the U.S. probably more like calling someone an a-hole here. Of course all this reminds me of this scene from Curb Your Enthusiasm (starting at around 1:30):

Here's what Wikipedia says for bollocks: Bollocks is a word of Middle English origin meaning "testicles." The word is often used in British English and Irish English in a multitude of negative ways; it most commonly appears as a noun meaning "rubbish" or "nonsense," an expletive following a minor accident or misfortune, or an adjective to describe something that is of poor quality or useless. It is also used in common phrases like "bollocks to this," which is said when quitting a task or job that is too difficult or negative, and "that's a load of old bollocks," which generally indicates contempt for a certain subject or opinion. Conversely, the word also appears in positive phrases such as "the dog's bollocks" or more simply "the bollocks," which will refer to something which is admired or well-respected. It's both, if in a fight and you use it it's a serious insult, if you meet your mates after not seeing them for ages it is a greeting term.

Yeah we definitely need a new word if we can't use retard. Way too many applications to not have a word.

I know this is old but my wife and I finished up the Wire last night. Great TV series, I liked it better than my wife but man did it give me flashbacks to my time working in 12 & 51 Division in Toronto back in the day.

I was working in 52 Division which is downtown Toronto, all the hotels, entertainment district and financial district in uniform. My partner and I got a call to a hotel in Yorkville which is very high end area, nicknamed the Mink Mile.
The call was for a sexual assault, we get there and there are two working girls in the lobby. It seems there services were engaged and when they got to the hotel room there was a dispute about finances but then the client wasn't letting them leave and got a bit physical with them. So we go up to the room with the manager and the master key. We knock, the guy doesn't want to let us in so we use the master. We get in the room and the guy is buck naked, covered in lube and wants to fight. There is also a full size TV type video camera and lights set up. It seems part of his deal with the ladies was he wanted to make a home movie. Anyway we end up in a "dynamic arrest" situation with the guy, crash around the room a bit and end up grounding him on the bed to handcuff him. I remember looking at my partner on top of the naked guy covered in lube and commenting that I hoped to fuck that the camera wasn't recording. |

We caught up on Mobland through last week’s episode and think it is excellent. Wish we waited a few more weeks to start so we could binge through to the end.

A few episodes of the 2nd season of Pokerface dropped here on Peacock this week. The 3 that we’ve watched so far did not disappoint one bit. Looking forward to more.
